Responsibilities Uses nursing process including assessment (telephonic or in-person), nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, effective outcomes. Administers and charts medications as ordered by physician; reinforces and clarifies physician instructions and explains procedures to patient and companion. Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and competence of designated skills identified for the position in pre‑op and PACU patient care duties, including the ability to provide patient care in emergency situations and based upon age‑specific needs using a developmental perspective. Maintains and evaluates own clinical expertise and practice, and demonstrates the importance of continuing education to facility responsibilities and professional growth. Maintains flexibility with scheduling and job assignments to cover patient needs; able to work in multiple perioperative areas. Fosters a positive and professional hospital environment by interacting with all persons in a considerate, helpful, and courteous manner and by participating as a team member. Participates in committees, work groups, and meetings as deemed necessary, demonstrates measurable results, meets target dates, collaborates with a multidisciplinary team, and takes part in shared governance. Successfully completes required competencies and obtains laboratory, EKG, and radiology studies requested by physician in accordance with policy. Utilizes individual goals and KPI models to measure and report on performance improvement. Performs any other duties assigned as required. Education Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited program is required. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is preferred. Experience Three years of previous experience in acute OR setting, with at least 12 months as a Registered Nurse in the orthopedic specialty area is preferred. Requirements A current, valid RN license in the state of practice or equivalent per state regulations. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or obtained within 90 days of hire. Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or obtained within 90 days of hire. Certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or obtained within 90 days of hire. Knowledge Current competencies for the job position. Knowledge necessary to make appropriate clinical decisions and interactions relative to the specific age of a patient. Knowledge and understanding of disease processes and perioperative care. Knowledge of hospital organization, universal precautions, and maintenance of a safe environment. Skills Skills validation/certification of competencies for the duties and responsibilities of a perioperative team member, including maintaining annual skill maintenance requirements. Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate professionally, both verbally and in writing, and active listening. Ability to provide excellent customer service to patients, physicians, visitors, and other health‑care teammates, promoting a positive work environment. Abilities Strong attention to detail and physical stamina to handle long, arduous work hours. Capacity to work in an environment that frequently produces a high level of stress and mental fatigue, with willingness to maintain a flexible work schedule as needed. Ability to multi‑task and manage multiple work priorities and support to teammates. Environmental Working Conditions Normal and emergent clinical environment. Patient care environment with potential exposure to unpleasant odors, blood and body fluids, infectious disease, and chemical or electrical hazards. Physical/Mental Demands Normal and emergent clinical environment.
