Navajo Preference Employment Act In accordance with Navajo Nation and federal law, TCRHCC has implemented an affirmative action plan pursuant to the Navajo Preference in Employment Act. Overview Position Summary The Audiology Health Technician works directly with the Audiologists, assisting in the provision of patient care and clinic management in order to facilitate quality audiological services at TCRHCC. Training will be provided and managed by the Audiologists and will include several out of state trainings, online and independent study outside of work hours, training in our clinic, various hospital procedure trainings, and frequent evaluation of acquired knowledge and competence. Qualifications Necessary Qualifications Education High School Diploma or GED Experience Fluency in Navajo and ability to translate courteously and accurately Must have previous clinical experience of 1 year or more Other Skills and Abilities A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers. All employment references must address and indicate success in each one of the following areas: Positive working relationships with others and excellent customer service skills Demonstrated ability in working with people from all levels of discipline Possession of high ethical standards and no history of complaints Reliable and dependable; reports to work as scheduled without excessive absences Highly energetic with the ability to work in a fast‑paced environment Excellent communication, both written and verbal Successful experience with independent work and problem solving is required. Willingness and ability to learn new skills and perform new tasks as they become needed in the audiology department. Mental and Physical Effort Physical: This position is a sedentary job where most of the time the Incumbent is sitting in an interior medical/clinical environment. The Incumbent must be able to frequently (approximately one‑half workday) sit, stand, maintain balance, and reach. They may be required to frequently lift to 10 lbs. and occasionally push and pull items no heavier than 10 pounds. The incumbent must have sensory prolonged (three‑quarters of the workday) ability for far, near, color vision; depth perception; seeing fine details; hearing normal speech; hearing overhead pages over a loudspeaker; and telephone use. This position requires the Incumbent to have hand manipulation ability for prolonged keyboard use; and occasional (less than one‑quarter workday) simple/firm grasping and fine manipulation. The position may involve exposure to hazards or physical risks which require following basic safety precautions. The Incumbent occasionally may be asked to accept a flexible schedule to meet the unit’s needs. Mental: The Incumbent must be able to prioritize and use good judgment. Other mental and emotional requirements: prolonged ability to cope with high level of stress, concentration, handle a degree of flexibility, work alone, demonstrate high degree of patience. The position requires frequent ability to make decisions under high pressure; cope with anger/fear/hostility of others in a calm way; and work in areas that are close and crowded. This position occasionally may need to manage altercations, handle multiple priorities in stressful situations; and must be able to adapt to shift work. Environmental: Occasionally may be exposed to environmental concerns such as infectious diseases, chemical agents, dust, fumes, gases, extremes in temperature or humidity, hazardous or moving equipment, unprotected heights, and loud noises. Responsibilities Interpret for Navajo‑speaking patients. Chart and form preparation, data entry for evaluations, programming, and reports. Hearing aid ordering and processing. Prepare hearing aids for fitting: electroacoustic analysis, programming, forms. Perform daily equipment listening checks and set‑up, complete weekly Verifit calibration, and schedule annual equipment calibrations. Teach patients how to use and care for their hearing aids. Troubleshoot hearing aid problem and perform office repair of aids. Patient seating, basic history, test instruction, equipment placement. Test assist for evaluation of young children or others needing special test techniques. Facilitate patient flow within the clinic and the ENT department. Help with transportation needs, and navigation around the hospital. Phone management and triage. Assist Patient Access Specialist (PAS) in arranging appropriate scheduling. Manage department records: filing, faxing, copying, report distribution, mail, databases. Maintain work area in an organized, neat, and clean state. Monitor and order clinic supplies. Submit and monitor department work orders. Follow established departmental and hospital policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives and safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Assist with implementation and development of policies and programs. Ensure proper PPE is always worn while on duty including but not limited to, face mask, gloves, gown, isolation gown, NIOSH‑approved N95 filtering facepiece respirator or higher, if available), and eye or face shield. Complete all donning and doffing tasks in a safe acceptable method and discard of used PPE accordingly. Complete task training for all routine cleaning and decontamination processes for all surfaces contaminated by a communicable disease to ensure a high level of patient, visitor, employee, and external customer satisfaction.
