Coastal Sanitation of NC, LLC is seeking a dedicated, safety-conscious, and experienced Automated Side Loader (ASL) Driver to join our residential collection team. 

Candidates must have at least three years of automated side-loader operating experience. Experience operating Labrie automated side-loaders is strongly preferred.

The selected driver will safely and efficiently collect residential waste and recycling, provide courteous service to our customers, and transport collected materials to the Onslow County Landfill or other designated facilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely operate an automated side-loader to collect residential waste and recycling.
• Operate the automated collection arm and mechanical packer safely and efficiently.
• Transport collected materials to designated landfill, recycling, or post-collection facilities.
• Enter and exit the truck as necessary to address improperly positioned containers, obstructions, spills, or other route conditions.
• Assist with manual collection or loading when operationally necessary.
• Safely maneuver the truck through residential neighborhoods, narrow streets, cul-de-sacs, and limited-clearance areas.
• Use mirrors and onboard cameras to monitor the collection arm, containers, surrounding traffic, pedestrians, and property.
• Use a spotter or helper when backing when required by company policy.
  Conduct thorough daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections.Complete and submit vehicle condition reports, route sheets, productivity records, DOT logs, and other required documentation.
• Immediately report mechanical problems, safety hazards, property damage, accidents, and service issues to management.
• Monitor the collection process for falling debris, damaged containers, unacceptable materials, or other hazards.
• Clean loose waste from the truck and collection area when material spills during service.
• Identify and refuse unacceptable or hazardous waste, including gasoline, flammable materials, chemicals, and other prohibited items.
• Interact professionally and courteously with customers and members of the public.
• Follow all company safety procedures, including lockout/tagout requirements.
• Comply with all applicable DOT, OSHA, FMCSA, EPA, and company regulations.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
  Required Qualifications
• Minimum of three years of automated side-loader driving and operating experience.
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
• At least 21 years of age.
• Clean and acceptable motor vehicle record.
• Ability to pass all required background checks, drug screenings, and DOT physical requirements.
• Ability to safely operate an automated collection arm and mechanical packing system.
• Ability to demonstrate safe and proficient operation of an ASL during a road and equipment test.
• Ability to perform safety-sensitive duties in accordance with DOT regulations and company standards.
• High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
  Preferred Qualifications
  Previous experience operating a Labrie automated side-loader.
  Residential waste or recycling collection experience.
  Experience performing basic inspections, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance on refuse trucks.
  Familiarity with Onslow County roads, neighborhoods, and landfill operations.
  Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  Thorough knowledge of automated side-loader controls, components, safety systems, and operating procedures.
  Knowledge of basic truck maintenance and the ability to identify unsafe mechanical conditions.
  Ability to position an ASL accurately for efficient container collection while protecting vehicles, mailboxes, utility lines, and other property.
  Ability to maneuver in tight residential areas and safely back approximately 120 feet or more when required.
  Ability to recognize unacceptable, hazardous, or flammable waste.
  Ability to read and understand route sheets, maps, GPS directions, safety documents, and company policies.
  Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  Strong situational awareness and sound judgment.
  Dependable attendance and the ability to work independently.
  Professional communication and customer-service skills.
  Physical Requirements
  Ability to sit for up to 75% of the workday while operating the vehicle.
  Ability to frequently enter and exit the truck.
  Ability to stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, balance, push, and pull.
  Ability to regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds.
  Adequate close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, along with depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  Ability to maintain awareness while operating in tight spaces and high-traffic areas.
  Ability to work safely in loud and physically demanding conditions.
  Working Conditions
  Work is performed outdoors for up to 100% of the shift.
  Regular exposure to heat, cold, rain, storms, humidity, dust, fumes, airborne particles, vibration, moving machinery, and loud noise.
  Continuous operation in residential neighborhoods and motor-vehicle traffic.
  Routes are performed away from the office for most of the workday.
  Early start times and extended shifts may be required depending on route volume, weather, equipment conditions, and operational needs.
