Outpatient Registered Nurse

$33 - $56 per hour

12-week paid training program for an entry-level clinical registered nurse, designed to prepare candidates for the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP). Purpose and Scope The professional registered nurse (RN) Outpatient RN CAP 1 is accountable for the provision and coordination of clinically competent care, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for an assigned group of patients. The role may include delegation of appropriate tasks to direct patient care staff (RNs, LVN/LPNs, and patient care technicians). As a member of the End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) healthcare team, the RN participates in decision‑making, teaching, leadership functions, and quality improvement activities that enhance patient care outcomes and facility operations. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Performs all essential functions under the direction of the Supervisor, with guidance from the Clinical Educator, Preceptor, or other registered nurses. Collects and analyzes patient data before, during, and after hemodialysis treatment, documents findings, adjusts treatment plans as needed, and notifies the Team Leader, Charge Nurse, Supervisor, or Physician. Assesses, collaborates, and documents patient and family learning needs to provide initial and ongoing education. Directs and provides safe and effective daily delivery of hemodialysis therapy in collaboration with direct and ancillary patient care staff. Administers medications as prescribed or per approved algorithms, documenting justification and effectiveness. Initiates or assists with emergency response measures. Serves as a resource for the healthcare team, participating in staff training and orientation of new staff as assigned. Ensures correct laboratory collection, processing, and shipping procedures; reschedules missed or insufficient collections. Documents and updates nursing assessment and plan of care for assigned patients through collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. Informs patients about transplant and treatment modality options. Completes CAP requirements to advance. Performs all other duties assigned by the Supervisor. Physical Demands and Working Conditions Provides direct patient care that regularly involves heavy lifting, moving patients, and assisting with ambulation. Requires frequent, prolonged periods of standing and bending. May require moving equipment or machines up to 200lbs or lifting chemicals and water solutions up to 30lbs up to 5feet. Works in a health‑care facility environment with air temperature control and moderate noise levels. May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/materials. Includes desk work, computer work, and interaction with patients, facility staff, and physicians. May require travel to training sites or other facilities and performing essential functions at other locations with similar demands. Supervision Provides oversight to Patient Care Technicians, LPNs, LVNs, and RNs as a Team Leader or designated Nurse in Charge after meeting all of the following: Successful completion of all FKC education and training requirements for new employees. Minimum of 9months experience as an RN. Minimum of 3months experience in chronic/acute hemodialysis as an RN. Education and Licensure Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Current appropriate state licensure. Current or successful completion of CPR BLS certification. Must meet the practice requirements in the state of employment. Experience and Required Skills Entry level for RNs with less than 2years of nephrology nursing experience. Chronic/acute hemodialysis experience is preferred.
