Surgical Assistant ProfessionFunctions as surgical first or second assistant to the surgeon for complex and basic operative or invasive procedures. Responsible for performing a variety of procedures or may specialize in a surgical specialty as appropriate. Performs responsibilities of a surgical technologist if required, but preferably not while functioning as first assist. Candidate must have a strong background in robotic surgery (XI), neuro, general, orthopedic, ENT, and vascular practices. Requires completion of a first assist skills checklist specific to the role. Candidates will be asked in detail about familiarity with procedures, particularly in vascular, robotic, and ENT specialties. Support on the unit will include charge nurses, leads, and supervisors. Charting system utilized is EPIC and Alaris, with Pyxis for medication management. Candidates will be cross-trained to all main surgical specialties and a urology center, with no floating to other facilities. Scheduling will include variable start times for day shifts. Expectations for on-call duties will include a 30-minute response time, with designated call slots Monday through Sunday. Holiday work expectations will be communicated upon inquiry. Surgical scrubs will be provided, with scrub caps to be covered by a surgical bouffant.
