Position Summary

The Life Skills Facilitator plays a vital role in supporting individuals on their recovery journey by providing engaging, strengths-based life skills education that promotes personal growth and self-sufficiency. Working within a nonprofit substance use recovery program, the facilitator delivers interactive classes that equip participants with practical tools to achieve stability, obtain employment, build healthy relationships, and successfully reintegrate into their communities.

The ideal candidate is compassionate, organized, and passionate about empowering individuals in recovery through education, encouragement, and skill development. The facilitator fosters a safe, inclusive, and trauma-informed learning environment that promotes hope, accountability, and resilience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, and facilitate engaging life skills classes for individuals participating.
• Deliver instruction on topics including, but not limited to:
• Time management and organization
• Goal setting and personal accountability
• Career exploration and career planning
• Resume writing and cover letter development
• Job search techniques and interview preparation
• Workplace professionalism and communication
• Financial literacy, budgeting, and money management
• Healthy relationships and effective communication
• Conflict resolution and problem-solving
• Community resource navigation
• Utilize trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, and participant-centered teaching practices.
• Foster a supportive classroom environment that encourages participation, mutual respect, and personal growth.
• Provide one-on-one (as needed) coaching and encouragement to participants as they work toward personal, educational, and employment goals.
• Collaborate with professional partners in the community to support participant success and enhance services.
• Monitor participant progress, attendance, and engagement while maintaining accurate documentation.
• Connect participants with community resources related to employment, education, housing, transportation, healthcare, and recovery supports.
• Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and program development initiatives.
• Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in accordance with organizational policies and applicable regulations.

Qualifications

Required

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Education, Counseling, Psychology, Workforce Development, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience facilitating adult education, life skills training, workforce development, or group instruction.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and virtual learning platforms.

Preferred

• Experience working with individuals affected by substance use disorders, mental health challenges, homelessness, justice involvement, or other barriers to stability.
• Knowledge of recovery principles, trauma-informed care, and motivational interviewing techniques.
• Experience in nonprofit, behavioral health, or community-based service settings.
• Certified Peer Support Specialist (if applicable), or other relevant certifications.

Working Conditions

• Work is performed in a nonprofit recovery services environment, including classrooms, community settings, and partner agency locations.
• Some evening or weekend programming may be required.
• Occasional local travel to community events, employment partners, or recovery support activities may be necessary.
