The Role The Project Engineer participates in Suffolk’s two‑year Career Start program, an entry‑level rotational series for recent college graduates with 0‑2 years of experience. The program comprises three eight‑month rotations in Project Management, Estimating, and Field Operations, designed to develop cross‑functional expertise and prepare candidates for future leadership roles. Responsibilities Estimating Assist with a subcontractor database. Assist with assembling bid documents for pricing. Document take‑offs: specification review, quantity take‑off (using “Digitizer”, manual scales, etc.), organization in spreadsheets, developing bid clarifications and RFIs, participating in project walk‑throughs, reviewing trade duration for the project schedule. Assist with the development and updating of scope sheets for subcontractor pricing. Develop trade spreadsheets for subcontractor bids. Assist with subcontractor pricing and detailed estimate development. Participate in architect/owner meetings. Prepare hard bids. Write contractual documents: qualifications, assumptions, accepted value engineering, alternate pricing, confirm document lists. Field Operations Gain basic knowledge of document control and shop drawing processing. Verify shop drawings against field conditions. Understand Exhibit B processes and assist in maintaining project files. Support quality control and punch list process. Understand construction methods and trade means and methods. Assist with site logistics, construction management plan, and vertical/horizontal control. Assist with safety requirements and baseline schedule updates. Assist superintendent with project documentation, including daily reports. Project Management Assist with change order creation and related processes. Assist with purchasing process from procurement through subcontract/PO execution. Assist with back‑charge process and vendor/subcontractor requisitions. Read and process shop drawings, understand contract documents, and assist with owner requisitions. Support punch list process and develop O&M manuals and warranty information. Assist with submittal, procurement, and delivery. Participate in project meetings. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Liberal Arts, or related field. 0‑2 years of related experience. Computer literate. Good communication skills. Working Conditions Daily work requires sitting for long periods, talking or hearing, fine‑motor control using keyboard or phone. Frequent standing, walking, and reaching.
