AI Engagement Lead

Role Description

The AI Engagement Lead owns the gap between what a client wants from AI and what will actually pay off. Most clients arrive knowing AI can do something for them, but not what to build or whether it's worth it. You run the engagement end to end, from discovery through delivery:

• Frame the real problem.
• Steer the work toward a measurable outcome.
• Hold the line on scope.
• Get something into production while it still matters.

You own whether the solution lands and whether the client comes away certain it was worth the spend. Engineers build it; you own whether it's the right thing to build in the first place. You run several engagements at once, moving between business goals and technical reality without losing either.

What You'll Do

• Lead discovery as a real deliverable.
• Run workshops with senior client stakeholders.
• Turn a fuzzy business situation into a defined project: the problem, the use cases, the success criteria, and what a win looks like in the client's own numbers.
• Own each engagement's path to a business outcome.
• Watch every front (technical, commercial, relationship, delivery).
• Get the right people in the room, drive the decision that needs making, and follow through until it sticks.
• Hold the line on scope.
• Read each change request for what it really is.
• Protect the version's outcome and use versioned delivery to keep the conversation constructive instead of combative.
• Push toward production.
• Drive an early, measurable win and keep the path from POC to production visible from day one.
• Manage the sponsor and the story.
• Keep expectations calibrated and run the customer forums that matter, from steering committees to demos.
• Work the pressure deliberately: decide when to absorb the client's anxiety yourself and when the team needs to feel it.
• Surface the commercial picture.
• Flag margin signals, billability, and expansion opportunities with the business context attached.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in customer-facing roles, with 5+ of them owning client engagements end to end, from discovery through delivery, in AI or software services.
• Delivery lead, engagement manager, solutions consultant, product manager or similar.
• A track record of running discovery with senior stakeholders and turning it into a project people can actually execute.
• Owned the scope, and ideally the commercial side, of client work.
• Run several projects in parallel without dropping the thread on any of them.

Requirements

• Knowledge of modern AI, both GenAI and classical ML, well enough to hold your own with engineers and client CTOs.
• Ability to build trust through substance, not overpromising.
• Steady demeanor when the client is anxious, the timeline is tight, or someone else set the wrong expectations.
• Proactive in seeking information and decisions.
• Adaptable to changing work shapes from one engagement to the next.
• Fluent English, written and spoken, able to translate between business and technical audiences.
