We are seeking a compassionate, bilingual Staff Attorney to represent Spanish-speaking clients in family law and related civil matters. Summary
Nuevo Sendero, Inc. is a public 501(c)3 non-profit organization established in 2007, with our headquarters in Orlando, Florida. The organization is primarily supported through volunteers and contributions from local supporters in our community. We are dedicated to promoting and maintaining public awareness of domestic violence, sexual abuse and family relationships. These services are provided through education, family counseling, workshops and other special programs to the families and youth in our community. We primarily work with Hispanic families of diverse backgrounds in several communities in Orange, Osceola and Volusia Counties.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
As a Staff Attorney, you will play a key role in advancing access to justice for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Responsibilities include:
- Provide direct legal representation and advocacy for Spanish-speaking survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in family law and related civil matters.
- Counsel and advise clients from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and immigration backgrounds on legal options and case strategy.
- Prepare and draft pleadings, motions, legal memoranda, correspondence, reports, and other case-related documents.
- Conduct legal research and analysis on matters affecting clients and organizational programs.
- Collaborate closely with advocates, counselors, community partners, and external agencies to ensure holistic client support.
- Participate in case planning and strategy discussions with fellow attorneys and legal professionals.
- Advise program staff on legal issues impacting clients and service delivery.
- Identify and analyze emerging legal and policy issues affecting survivors, immigrant communities, and access to justice.
- Contribute to organizational planning, program development, and initiatives related to legal services.
- Represent Nuevo Sendero in community meetings, trainings, and outreach efforts as needed.
- Maintain accurate case records and ensure compliance with legal, ethical, and funding requirements.
- Support a respectful, collaborative, and inclusive work environment that values diverse perspectives and experiences.
- Manage multiple priorities effectively while meeting deadlines and maintaining a high standard of client service.
- Perform other related duties consistent with the mission and goals of Nuevo Sendero.
Position Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, required;
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an American Bar Association (ABA)-accredited law school;
- Active membership, in good standing, with The Florida Bar;
- A minimum of three (3) years of active legal practice experience is required
- Experience in family law and/or domestic violence matters is required. Relevant clinical legal experience may be considered in fulfillment of this requirement
- Full professional bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish, both written and verbal, is required.
Nuevo Sendero Work Environment
- Most essential duties are performed in an office environment with exposure to a variety of business equipment and other pertinent materials normally found in this type of work setting;
- Work is normally performed in an area permitting partial-to-total privacy; and
- Work duties often require travel to other locations throughout the city, state, and country.
