Nutritionist Specialist - Public Health - WIC (Lewisville)

The Nutritionist Specialist performs professional educational work, counseling clients of the Women, Infants, and Children’s program. They provide formal and informal instruction in proper nutritional habits, obtain information from WIC program clients to determine nutritional status of clients and their children—including blood samples—and act as a consultant to other Public Health Department programs, collaborating with community health professionals to promote healthy nutrition and breastfeeding. Responsibilities Determine eligibility for WIC program participation based on established guidelines. Teach nutrition and breastfeeding classes as outlined in state‑approved plans; facilitate discussions on nutrition topics. Work with mother/baby dyads experiencing breastfeeding or formula issues to resolve challenges in compliance with WIC policy. Provide WIC clients with information, referrals, and follow‑up support for health goals and risk factors identified during eligibility screening. Plan and document breastfeeding training for staff per state requirements; manage breast pumps, including ordering, tracking, cleaning, and repair. Distribute EBT cards and shopping lists to participants. Develop and lead nutrition, breastfeeding, and WIC outreach projects. Provide nutrition and health screenings for pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women, infants, and children under five to determine eligibility; conduct lab work as necessary. Perform clerical and administrative duties such as data entry and answering phone calls related to breastfeeding or nutrition concerns. Assign and issue food packages that meet clients’ needs. Maintain regular and punctual attendance. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field and a minimum of one year of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Registered Dietician preferred. Valid driver’s license; must obtain a Texas driver’s license within 90 days of employment. Preferred candidate: bilingual in Spanish and English.
