About This Role

As a Substitute Teacher, you will provide instructional support and continuity of education in the absence of regular classroom teachers. Responsibilities include delivering lesson plans, maintaining classroom management, and fostering a positive and productive learning environment. You will ensure students remain engaged and that classroom routines and policies are followed, adapting to various grade levels and subjects as needed.

What You'll Do

• Follow lesson plans left by the classroom teacher and ensure continuity of instruction.
• Maintain a safe, respectful, and orderly classroom environment.
• Monitor student behavior and enforce school rules and policies.
• Take attendance and report any issues to school administration.
• Adapt teaching methods and materials when necessary to meet student needs.
• Provide individual or group instruction as needed.
• Supervise students during class, lunch, recess, and transitions.
• Communicate effectively with students, staff, and occasionally parents.
• Leave detailed notes for the returning teacher summarizing the day’s activities and student behavior.
• Handle emergencies and unexpected situations calmly and responsibly.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required;
• Prior experience working with children or in an educational setting preferred.
• Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
• Ability to follow written lesson plans and adapt to different teaching styles and grade levels.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Dependability, professionalism, and flexibility.
• Ability to pass a background check and fingerprint clearance (as required by local/state law).
• Basic computer literacy and ability to operate classroom technology (e.g., projectors, online learning platforms).
• Physical ability to supervise students and manage a classroom environment.
