Job Summary: The Urology Clinic LPN/MA works under the supervision of the Urology Physician and/or Advanced Practice Provider. The LPN/MA provides specialized care to patients with urologic conditions, performs clinic-based urologic procedures, and supports diagnostic and treatment workflows unique to urology. Responsibilities include patient assessment, care coordination, patient education, procedure assistance, chronic disease management, and direct clinical support related to urologic conditions such as BPH, kidney stones, incontinence, urinary retention, prostate cancer, and postoperative care.
The LPN/MA delivers safe, high-quality, patient-centered care in a specialty setting. The role requires knowledge of urologic treatments, sterile technique, infection prevention, and diagnostic equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides high-quality, patient-centered care in a rural primary care setting, addressing preventive, acute, and chronic health needs.
Assesses patient conditions, triages needs, and prioritizes care in a fast-paced, resource-limited environment.
Collaborate with physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate and deliver patient care.
Prepares patients for examinations and procedures, including obtaining histories, vital signs, and supporting the provider's workflow.
Perform comprehensive assessments for patients with urologic diagnoses, documenting relevant symptoms such as urinary retention, hematuria, dysuria, incontinence, and postoperative issues.
Coordinates patient care activities, including scheduling and follow-up of laboratory tests, diagnostic imaging, referrals, consults, and procedures.
Tracks, monitors, and ensures timely follow-up of test results, referrals, and outstanding orders in the electronic medical record (EMR)
Communicate clearly with patients regarding results, treatment plans, surgical instructions, medication use (e.g., alpha-blockers), and follow-up expectations.
Facilitate workflow of in-clinic procedure days including room preparation, instrument setup, and equipment readiness (scopes, bladder scanners, sterile trays).
Educates patients and families on medications, treatment plans, preventive care, and self-management strategies.
Educate patients on urologic conditions, including kidney stones, prostate enlargement, urinary incontinence, postoperative expectations, catheter care, and lifestyle modifications supporting urologic health.
Provide chronic care management for urology patients as designated (e.g., prostate cancer survivorship, recurrent UTI monitoring, etc.).
Support health strategies such as bladder training, pelvic floor exercise guidance (under appropriate clinical direction).
Coordinates care with external providers, specialists, and community resources to ensure continuity of care.
Assist with and/or independently perform urologic procedures including but not limited to:
Catheter insertions/removals (Foley, coude, suprapubic site care)
Bladder irrigation
Bladder scans and post-void residual measurements
Uroflowmetry tests
Urodynamic testing support
Vasectomy preparation and postoperative care
Preparation and assistance with in-clinic cystoscopies
Manage urgent urologic concerns such as acute urinary retention, catheter complications, postoperative symptoms, and stone-related pain while following clinical protocols and provider guidance.
Administer medications and perform specialty-specific treatments
Support procedural care for in-clinic and hospital-based urologic surgeries (NPO instructions, pre-op labs, post-op follow-up coordination).
Participates in multidisciplinary care coordination activities to improve patient outcomes and resource utilization.
Monitors patient progress and evaluates the effectiveness of interventions, adjusting care as appropriate.
Identifies and addresses barriers to care, including clinical, social, and financial factors impacting patient outcomes.
Maintains accurate, timely, and complete documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Ensures a safe, clean, and properly stocked clinical environment, including equipment and supply management.
Assists with clinic workflow efficiency and daily operations to support patient access and provider productivity.
Provide competent care and communication for patients of all ages.
Assist with restocking, daily/weekly cleaning of specialty equipment, and monitoring of instrument sterilization needs.
Performs other duties as assigned to support clinic and hospital operations.

Education and/or Experience:
Graduate of accredited school of licensed practical nursing (applicable for LPN) or Graduate of accredited Medical Assistant program (applicable for Medical Assistant).
Minimum of 1 year of healthcare experience required; clinic experience preferred.
Certificates and Licenses:
Current, active LPN License in the State of Illinois, in good standing or Medical Assistant certification required.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
