Job Category Academic Staff Employment Type Terminal (Fixed Term) Job Profile Research Specialist Job Summary The Research Core Research Specialist is responsible for the daily operation, oversight, and coordination of a shared veterinary research core laboratory that supports multiple principal investigators (PIs) and research programs across the School of Veterinary Medicine. This position serves as a central resource for faculty, house officers, staff, students, and collaborators conducting clinical, translational, and foundational research involving domesticated animal species. The Core Research Specialist oversees laboratory operations, shared equipment and instrumentation, regulatory compliance, and research support activities. The individual will coordinate with multiple research groups simultaneously and play a critical role in maintaining efficient laboratory workflows, ensuring compliance with institutional and federal regulations, and supporting high-quality research outcomes. This position requires strong organizational, communication, technical, and interpersonal skills, as well as experience working with animals, research teams, and veterinary clients in a collaborative academic environment. Key Job Responsibilities Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders 30% Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers 20% Sample collection (blood, urine, etc.) from a variety of domesticated species 20% Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials 20% Performs literature reviews and writes reports 0% Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences 10% Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results 10% Department Graduate and Research Programs, Clinical Studies Compensation Based on qualifications and experience Required Qualifications 2 years working either in a laboratory and/or with animals. Preferred Qualifications Certified Veterinary Technician Education Bachelor's degree and/or Certified Veterinary Technician required.
