Maintenance Mechanic I

The Maintenance Mechanic I repairs and maintains plant machinery, equipment, structures, tools and facilities as needed to meet production needs in a safe, reliable, efficient, and environmentally responsible manner.

Responsibilities

• Gather and analyze information skillfully and with alternate solutions in mind when necessary.
• Perform all tasks in a safe manner. Be a role model and advocate for safety among co-workers.
• Perform all tasks in an environmentally responsible manner.
• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance tasks as assigned.
• Perform general maintenance tasks as assigned by supervisor.
• Complete routine paper and/or computer work (work orders, work hours, parts, etc.).
• Uses typical mechanic's tools, equipment, and inspection gauges.
• Works from drawings, verbal instructions or sketches, and IFS work order systems.
• Uses shop math on a routine basis.
• Cleans debris and lubricant from parts, work area and equipment.
• Operates production equipment as required.
• Functions as mechanic's helper when assigned to work with senior mechanics.
• Clean parts, tools and working area.
• Work overtime as needed.
• Work on-call as required.
• Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Three to five years of experience as a maintenance mechanic, preferably in a manufacturing setting.
• High level of safety and quality.
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, work outdoors in all seasons, climb stairs and ladders, work from elevated platforms, and use hand tools (shovel, hammer, wrenches, etc.).
• Good problem-solving skills.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Demonstrate the ability to adapt to changes in the work environment.
• Understanding of the purpose and function of basic mechanical tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, pneumatic and power tools, pry bars, impact tools, pliers, etc.).
• Basic computer skills (entering work hours, work orders, parts usage, etc.).
• Knowledge of Mine Safety and Health (MSHA) preferred.
• Ability to comply with all corporate policies and MSHA regulations.
• Forklift experience preferred.
• Man lift and scissor lift experience preferred.
• Computer software experience preferred.
• Warehouse experience preferred.
• Possess an excellent safety record.
• Consistently at work and on time.
• Ability to meet schedules and deadlines.
• Ability to work varying shifts.
• Ability to work on-call as required.
• Valid driver's license.
