Senior Superintendent

Senior Superintendent

Department: Superintendent

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Irvine, CA

Compensation: $195,000 - $215,000 / year

Description

The Senior Superintendent leads field operations on large, complex, or multiple concurrent construction projects in the Irvine area. You own safety, schedule, quality, and trade performance from startup through turnover. You also set the standard for the field leaders around you.

This is a role for someone who has run the big jobs and wants to shape how they get built, not just how they get finished. You’ll weigh in during preconstruction, lead constructability reviews, and build logistics and sequencing plans before the first shovel hits the dirt. Then you’ll see them through to closeout and turnover.

Our work includes multifamily, senior living, and other projects where people live, stay, and depend on a building being done right and delivered on time. Experience in those environments is a plus. You’ll also mentor Superintendents and develop the next generation of field leadership.

This position reports to the Project Executive, Project Director, or other assigned supervisor. You’ll work closely with project teams, subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, clients, and operational leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and promote a jobsite culture of safety, accountability, planning, and continuous improvement, and coach field leaders on safety leadership.
• Identify and mitigate safety, schedule, quality, logistics, and staffing risks early, and develop recovery and contingency plans when conditions change.
• Lead delivery strategy from startup through closeout, including scheduling, sequencing, logistics, workforce planning, and trade coordination.
• Ensure quality standards, commissioning requirements, and turnover objectives are met.
• Resolve complex constructability and coordination issues, using VDC/BIM processes in the field.
• Lead, mentor, and develop Superintendents and other field personnel, and support recruiting, training, and succession planning.
• Participate in pursuits, interviews, and client presentations, and lead constructability reviews during preconstruction.
• Develop logistics plans, site utilization plans, and staffing strategies, and support procurement planning for long-lead items.
• Build strong working relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers.
• Contribute to company initiatives in safety, training, recruiting, and leadership development

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

• 20+ years of construction industry experience, with demonstrated success leading large, complex, or multiple commercial construction projects.
• Experience on multifamily, senior living, or similar occupied-living projects is preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and field experience.
• Expert understanding of construction means and methods, sequencing, logistics, quality requirements, and safety practices.
• Advanced ability to interpret plans, specifications, schedules, shop drawings, and project documentation.
• Strong understanding of constructability, site utilization, workforce planning, and trade coordination.
• Advanced knowledge of VDC/BIM and how to apply it in the field.
• Experience developing and mentoring Superintendents and other field personnel.
• Experience in preconstruction, constructability reviews, logistics planning, and project pursuits.
• Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management technology platforms.
• OSHA 30-Hour certification required.

Benefits

• A senior seat with real influence on strategy, from preconstruction through turnover, not just execution once the plan is set.
• The chance to run bigger, more complex work and to shape the next generation of Superintendents.
• Work on projects in Irvine and the surrounding Orange County market that matter to the people who will live in them.
• 100% employee-owned (ESOP) company with a track record dating back to 1925, so your leadership has a direct stake in the outcome.
• Full benefits package: competitive pay, bonus program, medical/dental/vision insurance, PTO/sick leave, life insurance, 401(k) with match, and a student debt assistance program.
