General Practice Veterinarian / Medical Director - Animal General on the Hudson

Position Overview We are seeking a compassionate and skilled full‑time Veterinarian to join our outstanding and progressive team! The ideal candidate is passionate about providing high‑quality veterinary care and has excellent communication skills to build lasting relationships with our clients. You will work alongside experienced veterinarians, technicians, and support staff and will closely collaborate with the Hospital Manager and Regional Manager. We also offer a Medical Director role for an experienced DVM interested in the next step in their career. Location: Animal General on Hudson in Edgewater, New Jersey — serving the community for over 30 years. Spacious, modern hospital with separate canine and feline treatment areas Dedicated surgical suite High‑speed fiberoptic dental unit & digital dental radiography Digital radiography for general diagnostics Access to ultrasonography services for advanced imaging Skilled, experienced support staff knowledgeable in dentistry and surgical assistance On‑site certified canine rehabilitation doctor and adjacent rehabilitation center Private parking for convenient commuting Key Responsibilities Comprehensive patient exams and medical work‑ups Client communication and education Perform diagnostic procedures and surgery Maintain accurate medical records Pharmacy duties such as prescribing medications and following controlled substance protocols Promote teamwork and staff efficiency Work with the Hospital Manager on weekly priorities and expectations Evaluate and monitor protocols for daily hospital operations from intake to discharge Monitor cases and attend daily rounds to ensure highest standards are upheld Participate in practice management updates and training at all levels Perform other duties as assigned by Management Qualifications (Required) Veterinarian degree (DVM or VMD) from an accredited college or university Current State Veterinary License DEA registration obtained and maintained At least 1 year of experience in a veterinary practice Strong diagnostic and clinical skills Excellent surgical and dental skills Ability to work well in a team‑oriented environment Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills Commitment to compassionate, high‑quality veterinary care Effective communication with all members of the Medical and Hospital staff Client communication skills – ability to elicit information, establish rapport, and provide explanations to pet owners Display confidence and reassurance when dealing with pets experiencing severe stress, illness, or pain Physical demands: may include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; some tasks involve moderately demanding work; ability to lift up to 50 pounds Preferred Skills (Nice to Have) Demonstrate clinical knowledge and skill in examining and assessing animals; perform cardiovascular, respiratory, orthopedic, neurological and other necessary examinations Problem‑solving ability to develop solutions for managing a high‑quality veterinary hospital Effective communication of diagnostic and therapeutic options to clients and internal staff Professionalism with constructive criticism, suggestions, and feedback Business acumen to understand management and finances of the veterinary practice Knowledge of ethical principles guiding patient decisions Commitment to continuing education and facilitation of learning for others What We Offer Base salary: $120,000—$165,000 USD.
