Senior Mental Health Promoter

Job Summary The Senior Community Outreach Ambassador – Mental Health Promoter is responsible for ensuring the integration of services across Supervisory Districts 1 & 2 (SPA 4 & 6) to strengthen communities, build trauma‑resiliency, and link community members to relevant services. The role leads outreach and advocacy for healthy, racially equitable communities by empowering others to raise awareness and mobilize change, collaborating with internal and external partners within the Department of Mental Health (DMH), other county departments, community partners, and thought leaders. The Ambassador leads non‑traditional workshops to enhance emotional, physical, and spiritual wellbeing of target populations and performs a variety of outreach and engagement activities as directed by the department and supervisory district. Key Responsibilities Establish authentic, positive, and supportive relationships with community members and encourage feedback. Engage in community activities including outreach, advocacy, facilitating groups, case management, referral and linkage, and collaboration with DMH and other county departments. Guide community members through resource utilization, schedule appointments, and assist with completing applications for eligible programs. Collect and disseminate information through canvassing, door‑to‑door, or community settings on CII services and other resources. Plan and execute community engagement activities with other ambassadors, community advisory/coalitions, neighborhood action teams, and outside community leaders to ensure community input is integrated into key decisions. Initiate and maintain communication flow between community groups and organizations. Work with diverse backgrounds to reduce cultural and socio‑economic barriers between community members and institutions. Facilitate meetings with the CII Community Engagement Team, ambassador meetings, and required training sessions assigned by funders. Provide community psycho‑education and support on topics such as protective factors, signs and symptoms of mental illness, healthy coping skills, nutrition, financial literacy, and career development. Document activities, service plans, and results while adhering to applicable policies and procedures. Support the recruitment and design of community change groups and recruit, train, and maintain relationships with community champions for ongoing communications efforts. Engage in digital media and function as a weaver of connectivity between people, places, organizations, ideas, and movements, raising awareness about human rights and encouraging community members to become activists in their wellbeing plan. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities None. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred. Lived experience in communities served or at least three years of community‑based direct service experience as a Promotor de Salud, Community Health Worker, Peer Advocate, Parent Partner, Community Ambassador, etc. Ability to work well with others, build consensus, and work towards a common goal. Valid driver’s license and state‑required auto insurance. Spanish/English bilingual preferred. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to handle confidential information with sensitivity to cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the service population. Participates in, conducts, and sustains performance quality improvement activities according to designated role and responsibilities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Free from alcohol and drug abuse. Understand CII’s basic philosophy and participates fully in carrying out its mission. Certificates, Licenses & Registrations Formal education and/or trainings or certifications a plus. Computer Skills Working knowledge of computer programs in a Windows environment, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. Vision & Noise Requirements No special vision requirements. Moderate noise level. Salary determined based on experience and market analysis. Benefits Generous paid PTO plus 10 paid holidays; agency closed between Christmas and New Year.
