The Assistant Supervisor will report to the Area Operations Manager and is a working position that assists with overseeing the daily operations of mowing crews responsible for maintaining roadways, medians, rights‑of‑way, and public areas in our Manatee and Polk Counties. This includes litter collection, mowing, edging, and trimming. Each morning begins with a crew briefing to review safety procedures and assign work. The assistant supervisor will lead teams, ensure safety compliance, monitor performance, and submit daily operational data. Job Duties Lead and supervise mowing crews performing litter collection, mowing, edging, and trimming. Operate tractors equipped with flail mowers, bush hog attachments, and other implements for roadside and right‑of‑way mowing. Operate riding mowers and off‑road utility vehicles to transport personnel and equipment. Operate company vehicles to transport personnel and equipment. Collect litter and debris along highways, rights‑of‑way, medians, and public spaces. Perform edging, trimming, and general grounds maintenance to ensure clean, safe environments. Use handheld tools and powered equipment such as trimmers, blowers, and edgers. Perform daily equipment inspections, routine maintenance, and minor repairs as needed. Safely load and unload equipment from trailers and assist with transport to job sites. Ensure all employees are working safely and following all safety protocols, including use of PPE and traffic control procedures. Identify and report hazards such as debris, sharp objects, needles, or unsafe conditions. Work collaboratively with team members to complete mowing, litter collection, and maintenance tasks efficiently. Accurately complete daily work reports and submit operational data via mobile device or paper log. Lead the crew in the absence of the Supervisor. Communicate clear, concise instructions to employees. Place, move, and recover temporary traffic control signage throughout the workday. Immediately correct any unsafe situations when possible. Report any hazards or unsafe conditions to the Area Operations Manager immediately. Train new employees in the safe and efficient execution of their assigned duties. Other duties and contracts as assigned. Requirements Advanced MOT Certified required Bilingual – English and Spanish preferred Experience in transportation, highway maintenance, or groundskeeping Familiar with mobile devices and Microsoft Office 365 Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to apply understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to take a teamwork approach to the job cooperating with others, offering help to others when needed, and considering large organizational goals rather than individual concerns. Ability to be self‑controlled and exercise good judgement. Strong leadership and teamwork skills Valid driver’s license with clean driving record Preferred Skills Ability to work independently, critical thinking, detail oriented, conflict resolution skills, and the ability to use a mobile device or computer. Work Environment The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; and will frequently be exposed to moving traffic and outdoor weather conditions. The noise level for this environment will be loud. Requires work along roadways, right‑of‑way, and parking areas for extended periods and in all types of weather. Incumbents must have the ability to work from home at times to attend virtual meetings and/or required company training. License Requirements Must have a valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
