About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required License: Current active nursing license required for submission Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS required; PALS and TNCC preferred Must-Have: - Experience in an ICU setting - Ability to manage unit responsibilities - Knowledge of electronic medical records Description: The Intensive Care Unit has a total of 20 beds. The average daily census is around 16-17 patients currently. Pre-COVID, the daily census was approximately 14. The unit has designated rooms available for COVID patients, if necessary. The RN to patient ratio is 1:1-2 for ICU and 1:3 for stepdown. The unit supports stepdown needs for the facility. Nurses in this unit work with a charge nurse present 24/7. The charge nurse is expected to be a free charge nurse but may take on a patient if needed. Charge nurses respond to rapid responses and codes. The unit occasionally receives nursing students and externs for observation and education. Every other weekend shift is required, with weekend shifts consisting of Saturday and Sunday. Holiday scheduling may avoid including travelers unless necessary. Scrub colors are navy blue, with a white or navy undershirt allowed. Distasteful tattoos must be covered while working. Monitoring is conducted using Phillips cardiac monitors, with no monitor techs present. RNs are responsible for silencing alarms for vents after notifying respiratory therapy. Pulmonary critical care specialists are available during the day, and hospitalists at night. Respiratory therapy and pharmacy services are available 24/7. Shifts run from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, with scheduling requests managed through the Kronos system. Travelers typically do not float outside of the ICU. Orientation includes general hospital onboarding with additional specific unit training. Common diagnoses treated in the unit include post cath lab patients and those requiring balloon pumps. The unit does not perform open heart surgeries. The team is prioritized for procedures like continuous renal replacement therapy. The cancellation policy allows clients to cancel two shifts per 13-week assignment. The charting system used is electronic medical records. A Bachelor's degree in nursing is not required for submission.
