Residential HVAC Lead Installer / Ductless Mini-Split Technician

Mountain MiniSplits is looking for an experienced Residential HVAC Lead Installer to join our growing team. We specialize in professionally designed and installed ductless mini-split systems for homeowners throughout the Richmond area. 

This is an ideal opportunity for a skilled HVAC technician who takes pride in craftsmanship, enjoys solving problems, and is ready to lead residential installations with minimal supervision. You will take ownership of both single-zone and multi-zone mini-split projects from installation planning through startup, testing, and final commissioning.

What You’ll Do

• Lead residential single-zone and multi-zone ductless mini-split installations
• Review job plans and determine the best installation approach
• Install indoor and outdoor ductless HVAC equipment
• Install and connect refrigerant line sets
• Run condensate drain lines and install condensate pumps when required
• Run electrical and communication wiring for ductless systems
• Perform proper flaring, pressure testing, evacuation, and refrigerant procedures
• Start up, test, and fully commission completed systems
• Diagnose and resolve installation-related technical issues
• Confirm proper system operation, airflow, drainage, and temperature performance
• Work safely and comfortably from ladders and in attics, crawlspaces, and other residential environments
• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional jobsite
• Protect customers’ homes and deliver an excellent homeowner experience
• Clearly explain completed work and basic system operation to homeowners
• Respond professionally to customer questions or concerns
• Document completed work, equipment information, job notes, and photographs
• Provide direction and technical leadership to installation helpers or junior technicians
• Work collaboratively with installers, office staff, salespeople, and company leadership
• Support teammates and help create a positive, solutions-focused working environment
• Maintain company tools, equipment, vehicles, and installation materials

Required Qualifications

• Three to five years of hands-on HVAC installation or service experience
• Strong residential HVAC experience
• Previous experience installing or servicing ductless mini-split systems
• Ability to lead installations and work autonomously
• Experience with both single-zone and multi-zone applications
• Current EPA Section 608 certification
• Working knowledge of refrigerant piping, evacuation, pressure testing, and system commissioning
• Ability to install condensate drainage, electrical wiring, and communication wiring
• Comfortable using extension ladders and working at heights
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record
• Ability to meet the physical demands of residential HVAC installation work
• Professional appearance and respectful customer communication
• Positive attitude and team-first mindset
• Willingness to help coworkers and receive constructive feedback
• Dependable, organized, and committed to completing work correctly

Preferred Qualifications

• Virginia Journeyman HVAC license
• Mitsubishi Electric ductless system experience
• Experience with inverter-driven heat pump systems
• Experience installing multi-zone ductless systems
• Residential electrical knowledge
• Manufacturer training or advanced ductless certifications
• Experience leading helpers, apprentices, or junior technicians

A Journeyman license is preferred but is not required for the right candidate.
