Interim Controller

Schedule: Full-time contract, approximately 40 hours per week Onsite requirement: Tuesdays and Thursdays Expected engagement: August 2026 through mid-January 2027 Focused Energy is seeking an experienced Interim Controller to provide parental leave coverage for a growing software and advertising technology company based in Boulder, Colorado. This is a hands‑on leadership role responsible for maintaining a strong accounting operation during the leave period. The Interim Controller will lead the accounting team, manage the monthly and quarterly close processes, oversee financial reporting, and partner closely with the company’s CFO, VP of Finance, FP&A Manager, and other business leaders. The ideal candidate is an established Controller with strong technical accounting skills, recent hands‑on NetSuite experience, and a background supporting a software, SaaS, adtech, or technology‑driven organization. Key Responsibilities Lead the monthly and quarterly financial close processes Oversee revenue close, account reconciliations, and close checklists Prepare monthly financial statements, flash reporting, board reporting, and investor-requested reporting Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable activities Manage cash‑flow forecasting and working‑capital reporting Oversee monthly sales commissions and quarterly bonus calculations Review and manage employee expense reimbursements Collaborate with FP&A, HR, operations, and other business functions Support external tax providers with periodic requests Manage and provide leadership to two accounting professionals and one Payroll Manager Maintain clear documentation and ensure a smooth transition before and after the leave period Required Qualifications Significant experience serving as a Controller in a hands‑on capacity Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting Experience leading monthly and quarterly close processes Experience managing an accounting team Experience with cash‑flow forecasting and working‑capital management Background in software, SaaS, adtech, or another technology‑driven business Ability to work onsite in Boulder every Tuesday and Thursday Availability to commit approximately 40 hours per week through mid‑January 2027 This position requires an experienced Controller who can step into the role quickly and independently. Candidates whose experience is primarily at the Assistant Controller level may not be the right fit. The selected candidate will have several weeks to work alongside the current Controller before the leave begins during the first week of September. The engagement is expected to continue through approximately mid‑January, including a one‑to‑two‑week transition period when the Controller returns.
