Sr Director, Maintenance & Manufacturing Excellence Scotts Miracle‑Gro is seeking a strategic and hands‑on Sr Director to lead Maintenance & Manufacturing Excellence across our North American manufacturing network. The role drives the transition from reactive maintenance to a predictive, data‑led operational excellence culture and oversees a $110M–$150M annual capital expenditure portfolio. Responsibilities Design and own the end‑to‑end lifecycle of the Manufacturing Excellence program across the North American network. Evolve existing Lean initiatives into a sustainably embedded Continuous Improvement culture, partnering with Supply Chain and Analytics to leverage predictive analytics and Industry 4.0 integration. Transform maintenance from reactive firefighting to predictive asset‑health management; establish KPIs such as MTBF, proactive maintenance ratio, and OEE. Embed Total Productive Maintenance pillars into frontline operator routines to foster equipment ownership, safety, and stewardship. Oversee allocation, prioritization, and execution of the manufacturing capital expenditure portfolio ($110M–$150M annually). Serve as executive sponsor for major capital installations, vet project scopes, manage resources and budgets, and lead post‑investment validation. Act as the enterprise change agent for manufacturing operations, enforcing standardized processes across diverse facilities and overcoming legacy resistance. Serve as the primary liaison between Engineering, R&D, Finance, Supply Chain, and Plant Operations, translating complex engineering realities into clear business strategies for executive leadership and the Board. Align maintenance and equipment strategies with SMG’s environmental commitment, reducing footprint and ensuring safety for associates and communities. Mentor and develop regional operational excellence and maintenance leaders, building a robust succession pipeline. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or Chemical) or Operations/Supply Chain Management; Master’s or MBA preferred. Lean Six Sigma Green Belt minimum (or equivalent demonstrated proficiency). CMRP, TPM, PMP, or Industry 4.0/Smart Manufacturing credentials are desired. 10–15 years of progressive leadership experience in manufacturing, engineering, or operations within a complex, multi‑site consumer goods or process manufacturing environment. Proven track record leading enterprise‑scale operational excellence, TPM, and reliability transformations. Experience managing capital portfolios of $100M+ and delivering post‑investment validation. Executive communication skills, including briefing C‑suite leaders and boards while remaining hands‑on with plant teams. Deep expertise deploying Lean, Six Sigma, TPM, and RCM across a large, multi‑site enterprise. Strong financial acumen for managing large capital portfolios and conducting ROI/NPV analysis. Fluency in predictive analytics, Industry 4.0 integration, and data‑led decision‑making. Change leadership ability in legacy‑practice environments with diverse stakeholder groups.
