American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter Job Details Job ID: 5741552 Application Deadline: Posted until filled Posted: May 27, 2026 4:00 AM (UTC) Starting Date: Immediately Location: Framingham Public Schools, Framingham High School, Framingham, Massachusetts Position Summary The American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter facilitates communication between students, parents, and school staff to ensure educational rights for Deaf or Hard of Hearing families. They provide high‑quality interpreting services on an as‑needed basis, supporting inclusive learning and academic proficiency. Responsibilities Facilitate communication between the student, teachers, and peers during lectures, small‑group work, and classroom discussions. Interpret non‑spoken information such as intercom announcements, fire drills, and incidental classroom chatter. Collaborate with General Education teachers to prepare specialized vocabulary in advance. Support student social‑emotional growth by interpreting peer‑to‑peer interactions during recess, lunch, and transitions. Provide feedback on student communication progress during Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and/or 504 meetings, as requested. Maintain professional conduct in alignment with EIPA guidelines. Ensure clear communication between parents/guardians and school staff during meetings or school events. Other duties as assigned by the Principal. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred. American Sign Language (ASL) Certification preferred. Previous experience in an educational setting preferred. Strong oral and written communication skills. Sound problem‑solving skills. Proficiency in integrating SEL frameworks into classroom interactions. Ability to utilize restorative practices. Technical literacy: ability to read and interpret IEPs, curriculum materials, and district regulations. Relationship building and collaboration skills. Cultural proficiency and competence. Reliability, professionalism, and composure. Strong organizational and time‑management skills. Technology proficiency (Google Workspace and assistive technologies). Compliance with state and federal laws, Framingham Public Schools policies, and collective bargaining agreements. Ability to code‑switch between Formal ASL, Pidgin Signed English (PSE), and Conceptually Accurate Signed English (CASE). Preferred Qualifications Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese. Physical & Working Conditions Must move throughout the school building and grounds, responding quickly to emergency situations. May need to stand for extended periods during lessons and meetings. Must maintain continuous visual and auditory focus for accurate real‑time communication. Requires manual dexterity to operate a computer, enter data into digital logs, and use assistive technologies. May lift and move instructional materials up to 20–30 lbs and support students during emergencies. Must adapt to noise levels and outdoor weather conditions during recess, field trips, and transitions. Must remain calm and professional during high‑stakes emotional or behavioral situations. Reports To Building Principal (or designee). Employment Details Classification: Non‑Exempt (Hourly). Work Year: 180 days (Ten Months). Covered under Framingham School Committee Contract. The District reserves the right to transfer personnel as needed. Salary $44 per Hour.
