Chandler Unified School District Job DescriptionCLASSIFICATION: SUPPORT STAFFJOB TITLE: CABLING TECHNICIANREPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF SUPPORT SERVICESCALENDAR: 2612H (12 MONTH)SALARY: GRADE 118Job Goal:Cabling Technician installs all low voltage electrical infrastructures, maintains, and supports the school district's structured cabling, fire/security systems wiring and networks. This position ensures reliable connectivity for instructional, administrative, and security systems across all district facilities.Minimum Qualifications:High School diploma or equivalent.Possess a valid Arizona driver's license.Ability to read and write English as it pertains to job function.1 or more years' experience in cabling maintenance/installation desired.Knowledge of TIA/EIA cabling standards and best practicesAbility to read blueprints, floor plans, and network diagramsBasic understanding of networking concepts (LAN/WAN)Ability to use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and testing equipmentAbility to operate Lifts vary from building elevators (hydraulic, traction for passengers/goods) to construction aerial work platforms (scissor, boom, mast) and specialized lifts (dumbwaiters, platform/stair lifts, telehandlers) for specific tasksSatisfactory criminal background check.Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and reach for extended periodsAbility to lift and carry up to 50 poundsPreferred QualificationsExperience in K–12 or public-sector environmentsIndustry certification (BICSI, CONPTIA Network, or equivalent)Fiber optic termination and testingFamiliarity with PoE devices, VoIP systems, and security systemsCore Job Functions:Install, terminate, label, and test structured cable systems (CAT5e/CAT6/CAT6A) and fiber optic cablingFire/security/EMS wiring systemsMaintain and repair existing cabling infrastructure to support voice, data, wireless, and video systemsInstall network racks, patch panels, wall plates, conduit, and cable management systemsTest and certify network cabling using industry-standard tools and equipment Troubleshoot network connectivity issues related to physical cabling and hardware Assist with installation and support of network switches, wireless access points, IP phones, security cameras, and other network-connected devicesMaintain accurate documentation of cabling layouts, labeling, and network diagramsSupport new construction, remodeling, and technology upgrading projectsFollow all district safety procedures and applicable building codesWork collaboratively with district staff, administrators, contractors, and vendors to perform related duties as assignedInstallation and service of all district camerasAdhere to OSHA, National Electric Code, and district safety protocols; manage heights and confined spacesAnd any other duties assignedCore Values:Excellence in all we do.
