Associate Director of Advancement (Development Officer)

The Associate Director of Advancement designs and implements engagement strategies for the Eskenazi School's network of more than 14,000 alumni around the world. This position also plays a critical role in the school's annual fundraising and stewardship strategies, particularly when it comes to cultivating early stage donors and donor prospects.
Department Specific Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for stewardship, event planning and implementation, establishing or expanding relationships with donors and alumni, and coordinating with key partners across the school and university.
- Responsible for ensuring that practices follow Eskenazi School, IU Alumni Association, and IU Foundation objectives and policies, and for tracking the advancement budget as part of the planning process.
- Intensive coordination with the Senior Director of Development (supervisor), dean (dotted line), associate director of employer and alumni engagement, and the Eskenazi School's communications team is required to deliver consistent, high-volume messaging that connects the Eskenazi School mission to audiences on a regional and national scale.
- Occasionally collaboration and coordination with the Eskenazi Museum of Art development and communication teams.
- Responsible for designing, implementing, and meeting the goals and objectives set for engaging the Eskenazi School's network of more than 14,000 alumni around the world. This position has the responsibility of creating and assessing new systems, methods, policies, and protocols in a constantly changing fundraising and alumni relations environment.
- Makes frequent judgement calls regarding event management and details, communicates with donors and alumni with care paid to tone and content, and ensures the school is represented in a professional manner.
- Ensures that practices meet the Eskenazi School, IU Alumni Association, and IU Foundation objectives and procedures. This position builds personal relationships while making data-driven decisions.
- Plays a key role in relationship building with alumni and donors, requiring interaction with school leadership, faculty, students, and staff. This requires a thorough understanding of the school's goals and initiatives, as well as the ability to discuss goals and initiatives accurately and appropriately.
- Serves as the primary liaison on all alumni relations matters for the IU Alumni Association, the IU Foundation, and other partner offices throughout the university.
- Cultivates and maintains positive and productive working relationships with various internal and external constituents and interact frequently with our alumni leadership.
- Provides leadership and follow-through for projects while working within budget constraints is critical.
- Introduces students to their alumni community, promotes student professional development through alumni connections, and works to create a culture of philanthropy among alumni, future alumni, and friends of the Eskenazi School.
- Cultivates donor relationships through segmented stewardship and solicitation messaging, regular communication and outreach, including thank you messages and consistent updates on scholarships and gifts.
- Maintains the Crimson database and Workfront or AlumniQ list pulls and solicitation approvals, and forward prospective and current donor information to the director of development.
- Strategically identify and develop engagement strategies that provide opportunities for alumni and contributors to be meaningfully involved in the school's mission. This includes board service, and programs designed to catalyze personal connections with faculty and students.
- Oversees the design and production of alumni-related marketing and communication, including online, social media and web content.
- Collaborates with the faculty to facilitate Eskenazi School Alumni Board(s) organization, communication, and activities.
- Fosters collaborative relationships with faculty and university advancement partners to expand and diversify the alumni network, including mentors, volunteers, annual donors and advocates for the Eskenazi School.
- Tracks and assesses alumni volunteer engagement as a measure of successful advancement of alumni relationships with the university.
- Develops and manages events to strategically engage Eskenazi School alumni and donors.
- Develops and implements events that engage alumni who have the capacity to make early stage and major gifts. Events may include alumni receptions in major media markets, on-campus guest speakers, reunions, or anniversary celebrations. Advancement data is used to ensure strategic use of resources when planning and implementing these events and sends follow-up messaging and associated metrics after alumni events.
- Manages fall and spring commencement celebrations, as well as working with Eskenazi School Associate Director of Employer and Alumni Engagement on career focused activities which bring alumni to campus for various panel discussions and networking opportunities with students.
- Manages the school's annual campaign, IU Day, and targeted solicitations, establish a variety of crowdfunding campaigns in response to school needs, and support events for current and prospective donors.
- With supervisor, set annual giving targets, contacts, and timelines by campaign.
- Tracks progress toward goals, reporting and presenting figures to supervisor and dean.
- Elevates the school's overall advancement strategy.
- Researches, compiles, and provides metrics, facts, and general operations information to donors.
- Regularly collaborates with colleagues and faculty to answer donor queries related to their interest in giving/contributing.
- Researches information about donor prospects and presents those to supervisor and dean.
- Helps identify major gift prospects and develop opportunities to engage them with the school.
- Manages the school's distinguished alumni recognition strategy.
- Oversees the nomination and selection process of the Eskenazi School Distinguished Alumni Awards and organize awards reception(s).
- Helps create purposeful interactions between award recipients and faculty, students, and university administration.
- Works with dean and director of development to build lasting and meaningful relationships with award recipients to lay the groundwork for sustained engagement, and to create a pipeline for major and planned gift cultivation and solicitation.
- Identifies new prospects, cultivates relationships, and manages a portfolio and/or region of donors building a pipeline for solicitation.
- Executes plans and designs campaigns to sustain and increase donations.
- Collaborates with development colleagues university-wide to align prospects/donors' interests with university funding needs and opportunities.
- Maintains meaningful and consistent contact with potential donors to communicate university goals and solicit their support.
- Introduces campus/school fundraisers to appropriate gift prospects for cultivation.
- Documents communications, analyzes data, evaluates success and makes recommendations for change to campaign strategy.
