You would be joining the Ayer Neuroscience Institute at Hartford Hospital in the position of Nurse Manager on the Bliss Ci which is a 17 bed Neuroscience ICU unit. This role has the benefits of being part of the Neuroscience Institute along with the resources and teamwork that it brings. Your role, in partnership with the Nurse Director, would be to support the management, budgeting, staffing and patient care this combined ICU. We provide care to patients with a wide range of complex, highly acute neurocritical care issues utilizing a variety of advanced technologies and devices including CRRT, monitoring intracranial pressures, brain tissue oxygenation and hemo-dynamic monitoring. Our patient population includes but are not limited to; acute neurosurgery, stroke, head/spinal cord trauma, seizure and brain hemorrhage. RNs in this specialty also must have a family-centered approach because of the critical nature of our patients. We also work closely with our Critical Care Clinicians, Neuro-intensivists, Physician Assistants and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses to provide the highest quality of care for our patients.

Functioning within the framework for professional nursing practice, the Patient Unit Manager supports and assists the Director. This position has 24 hour accountability for managing resources (human, material and financial), to ensure quality, cost-effective delivery of patient services for specific patient populations, in a defined area across the continuum. This is accomplished by direct action, delegation, coaching and support of unit-based shared governance councils. Reports to Director of Nursing for the Ayer Neuroscience Institute.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

• Current Connecticut Registered Nurse license required.
• Bachelor's degree required.* Master's degree preferred. One degree must be in Nursing.
• ICU and Neuroscience Experience Preferred.
• Certification in nursing administration is required within 5 years of assuming position.
• Minimum 3 years relevant clinical experience.
• CPR certification preferred.
• Demonstrated progressive leadership skills.
• Strong written and verbal communications skills required.

*Exceptions to the educational requirement will be evaluated on an individual basis. For example, a strong candidate in the process of completing the educational requirement will be considered. Continued progress toward completion of the educational requirement within five years will be required.
