Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Research Scientist (Artificial Intelligence) for a top energy technology client. This candidate will join a cutting-edge AI research organization focused on accelerating the global energy transition through advanced machine learning, generative AI, foundation models, and scientific AI research. The ideal candidate will work across the full innovation lifecycle, from fundamental research and experimentation to prototype development and real-world deployment. Projects span power generation, renewable energy, electric grid modernization, robotics, manufacturing, and other high-impact industrial applications. Day-to-Day:

Research and develop innovative AI solutions for complex industrial and energy-sector challenges

Design and build machine learning, deep learning, generative AI, and foundation model solutions

Collaborate with multidisciplinary research teams across engineering and scientific domains

Develop prototypes to demonstrate AI value for real-world applications

Create scalable, reusable, and efficient software solutions

Contribute to intellectual property through patent filings and invention disclosures

Publish research findings in journals and conferences

Support and contribute to grant proposal development

Partner with internal business units, government agencies, universities, and external research organizations

Advance AI capabilities across power generation, renewable energy, electric grids, robotics, and manufacturing applications

Skills and Requirements

PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field with a focus on AI

OR

MS degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related field

Minimum 2+ years of AI-focused professional experience

Strong Python programming skills

Experience with AI/ML/GenAI frameworks such as:

PyTorch

TensorFlow

Hugging Face

Deep expertise in at least one of the following:

Training domain-specific Large Language Models (LLMs)

Developing time-series or multimodal foundation models

Building and leveraging knowledge graphs for reasoning and memory

Integrating physics into scientific machine learning models

Authorized to work in the United States PhD focused on advancing Artificial Intelligence technologies

Experience training multimodal foundation models utilizing image, text, and tabular data

Experience integrating physics into machine learning models

Experience integrating LLMs with knowledge graphs

Grant proposal writing and execution experience

Experience collaborating with government agencies such as:

DOE

ARPA-E

DOD

DARPA

Published research in scientific journals and conferences

Patent development and invention disclosure experience

Significant GitHub portfolio or contributions to open-source codebases
