Construction Equipment Worker

The Job Construction Equipment Workers perform skilled tasks in the construction, repair and maintenance of roads, flood control channels and other public works facilities in San Bernardino County. Employees may work in Mountain, Desert, Valley or remote yards. Bonuses Recruitment Bonus – up to $2,000 ($1,000 upon hire and $1,000 after completing 2,080 service hours). Referral Bonus – up to $750 per referral ($250 upon hire, $500 after 2,080 hours). Remote Assignment Bonus – up to $2,000 ($500 upon hire, $500 after 2,080 hours, $1,000 after an additional 2,080 hours). Benefits Excellent benefits are available. Conditions of Employment License: Must have a valid Class B (or higher) Driver License with tanker endorsement and no restrictions for air brakes or manual transmission at application. Some positions may require a California Class A Driver License. All employees must pass a drug test and a medical examination. Availability: Employees must be able to respond to a road yard within 60 minutes (valley/desert) or 45 minutes (mountain) during critical response situations. A telephone or other immediate communication method is required, and 24‑hour emergency callbacks may be requested. Physical: Work involves frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, working on rough terrain, extreme climates, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Exposure to dust, vapor, hazardous materials, noise and extreme temperatures or humidity is common. Sponsorship San Bernardino County does not consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future. Requirements License: Valid Class A or B Driver’s License with tanker endorsement and no restrictions for manual transmission or air brakes. Experience: Option 1 – Nine (9) months as a Construction Equipment Worker Trainee for San Bernardino County. Option 2 – One (1) year in construction, maintenance, repair, industrial, fabrication, general manual labor or a closely related field. Desired Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess experience in the maintenance and/or construction of roadways, flood‑control facilities, airports, landfills, underground facilities, excavation/grading, concrete or pavement work, or a similar public works setting.
