RN Neurology

The Registered Nurse for the SMH Level 2 Neurology Unit provides specialized nursing care to patients with neurological conditions such as stroke, epilepsy, Multiple Sclerosis, and Guillain Barre Syndrome. The role requires critical thinking and collaboration within an interdisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment. The nurse will utilize telemetry monitoring and continuous video EEG technology to support comprehensive neurological assessments and treatments. A minimum of two years nursing experience, telemetry skills, and specific certifications are required. Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to patients with acute and complex neurological disorders.
• Perform patient assessments, monitor telemetry and continuous video EEG data.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
• Administer medications and treatments according to established protocols.
• Participate in care planning and documentation using electronic medical records.
• Respond to patient emergencies and provide critical care interventions as needed.
• Maintain compliance with Joint Commission standards for stroke and epilepsy care.

• Active Registered Nurse license in New York State.
• Minimum of two years nursing experience, preferably in telemetry or neurological care.
• Telemetry monitoring experience.
• Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.

• Experience working in a Comprehensive Stroke Center or Epilepsy Monitoring Unit.
• Familiarity with continuous video EEG technology.
• Experience with electronic health record systems, preferably EPIC.

• Work includes rotating day, evening, and night shifts.
• Weekend, holiday, on-call, and callback duties as required by unit needs.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity neurological care environment.

• Rotating shifts covering days, evenings, and nights.
• Schedule includes weekends and holidays with potential for on-call and callback responsibilities.
• Up to 48 hours per week billed at regular time on a rotational basis.
