Respiratory Therapist - Sign on Bonus

This position provides respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing, and ventilation support services to both in‑patients and out‑patients ranging in age from neonatal to geriatric. The respiratory therapist–clinical respiratory technician (RT‑CRT) is responsible for setting up equipment, monitoring therapy, performing arterial blood gas analysis, interpreting EKGs, administering intermittent therapy, assisting with artificial airway changes, and delivering services as ordered by a physician in accordance with established policies and procedures. Education Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Care (required) Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (preferred) Work Experience None required Certifications Current state license as a Respiratory Therapist National Board of Respiratory Care certification (Registered Respiratory Therapist) Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – must be obtained within 90 days of hire Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – must be obtained within 90 days of hire Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Computer skills for data entry and information retrieval Effective verbal and written communication; ability to present information clearly and professionally Proficiency with Windows‑style applications and role‑specific software packages Strong interpersonal skills Job Duties Perform routine and advanced therapeutic procedures in accordance with established policy and procedure Document and review all clinical information for each patient Educate patients and co‑workers on procedures and treatment plans Perform diagnostic procedures and provide care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the patient’s age Adapt communication style and behavior to meet the needs of specific patient populations, respecting privacy and obtaining permissions as needed Execute other duties as required; statements describe the general nature of work and are not exhaustive Maintain knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements, ensuring compliance Physical and Environmental Demands Heavy lifting: occasionally >100 lbs, frequently >50 lbs, constantly >20 lbs for moving objects Tasks may require walking or standing extensively, pushing or pulling arm/leg controls, or maintaining production pace while exerting negligible weight Use mechanical lifting devices or team lifts when possible Manual dexterity required: stooping, bending, reaching, grabbing with arms and hands Prolonged sitting or standing acceptable; flexible work schedule including 24/7, weekends, holidays, and on‑call availability Exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue, and a risk of communicable diseases; potential exposure to hazardous medications or waste Ochsner is an equal opportunity employer.
