Medical AssistantLivWell Community Health Services is a non-profit organization providing comprehensive health and support services, education, and advocacy, as related to HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases, and viral hepatitis. Quality health care is provided to persons living with HIV/AIDS or sexually transmitted diseases, support services are provided to HIV clients and their families, and prevention education and testing are provided to all clients, their families, and the community at large. Within the community, we strive to prevent new infections of HIV and STI's and reduce the stigma associated with these various diseases by promoting awareness, acceptance, and equality.As a Medical Assistant, a typical day might look like this:Schedules and enters patient labs, as ordered by providersEducates and links patients to internal and external resources, including Part B services and housingCoordinates and attends satellite clinicsEnsures medication renewal requests are sent to providers and followed up on with provider's reply which includes e-prescribing approved medicationCompletes prior authorizations for medications as neededTriages patient calls as neededInitiates process for patient referrals and orders including scheduling, obtaining pre-certification, and other details needed to completeAssists in chart reviews and completes post-review "To Do" listCompletes chart information as needed, i.e. To Dos, phone calls, etc.Completes follow-up calls to patients, including adherence calls, etc.Assists in rooming patients, taking vital signs, and recording medical historyAssists the Clinic Support Coordinator as neededAttends all assigned meetings including daily medical huddle, weekly interdisciplinary meetings, department meetings, monthly staff meetings, etc.Collaborates with Support Services staff on patient needsAdministers injections and vaccines as ordered by providerTransmits information for vaccines given in office to the state immunization registryParticipates in Continuous Quality Improvement activities as assignedCompletes all annual training as assignedAny other duties that may evolve within this positionThis job may be for you if:You communicate clearly and do so with warmth and tactYou are comfortable talking to people on the phone or in-personYou pay attention to detailsYou understand the importance of privacy and staying in compliance with regulationsYou see the benefit of working with a diverse group of peopleYou take ownership of tasks and can work self-sufficientlyYou can work under pressure and are able to balance competing prioritiesYou can creatively solve scheduling issuesYou enjoy collecting, sorting, and compiling data into reportsYou are energetic and are willing to occasionally work flexible shiftsYou are motivated to set goals and achieve themYou are willing to become certified as an HIV tester and perform testing as neededYou are a good listenerYou enjoy helping othersYou are mission-minded and want to contribute to a larger causeRequired Qualifications:High school diploma or GED2+ years of medical office, specifically direct patient care experienceValid driver's license in your state of residence and insurable to drive LivWell CHS' company vehiclesExperience with Microsoft Office Suite, EHR functionality, and general office softwarePreferred Qualifications:5+ years demonstrated experience in a medical assistant role in a medical office environmentCertified Medical Assistant and/or Associate's DegreeKnowledge of HIV diseaseKnowledge of generic and brand name medications and their usesThe physical demands described here represent those that must be met by any worker to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.
