Position Summary
This position is responsible for providing legal advice to the Associate General Counsel(s), the General Counsel, employees and the management team.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Negotiate, draft, and revise legal agreements, such as vendor contracts, leases and other commercial agreements
Provide legal advice and counsel to management on a variety of legal matters
Ensure the cooperative’s operations and activities comply with applicable laws and regulations
Conduct legal research and related to legal, regulatory, and corporate governance issues
Manage and direct litigation in consultation with superiors in assigned cases, including discovery responses, witness preparation, strategy, mediation, negotiation and resolution
Monitor and maintain awareness of industry legal issues and provide updates when required
Manage and oversee the activities of outside counsel
Provide employees with guidance in handling difficult or complex legal and regulatory matters, in addition to other matters involving risk and in resolving escalated complaints or disputes
Implement corporate and departmental policies and procedures in conjunction with management
Teach and instruct employees in duties that require coordination with the legal department and legal input
Establish prioritization of responsibilities and exercise time management skills
Establish metrics and prepare monthly reports for areas of responsibility
Coordinate activities with other departments

May provide technical direction to others
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of general corporate legal issues including contracting,
Knowledge of business and management principles including strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques and budgeting
Knowledge of using computer systems, which may include setting up and using hardware and software programs, entering data or processing information
Knowledge of federal, state, and local law and regulations that affect the utility industry
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service
Skilled in risk assessment, analytical reasoning, and focusing on details.
Skilled in monitoring and managing performance
Skilled in prioritizing and time management
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
Ability to listen and understand information verbally and in writing

Minimum Qualifications - (Education, Experience)
Bachelor’s degree
Juris Doctor degree
Licensed to practice law in the State of Texas
Three years of experience practicing law preferred
Experience in real estate transactions and/or labor and employment law preferred
Valid Texas Driver’s License

Exempt employees receive a fixed bi-weekly salary to compensate them for all hours worked during each pay period
This position may be required to work more than 40 hours per week
