College and Career Counselor

Job Description The College and Career Counselor is responsible for implementing and coordinating a comprehensive college, career, and postsecondary planning program that supports all students in preparing for successful transitions after high school. The counselor provides individualized guidance related to college admissions, career exploration, workforce readiness, financial aid, military options, and postsecondary planning. The position also coordinates career development opportunities for CTE students, including co‑op placements, employer partnerships, workplace readiness preparation, and ongoing monitoring of student work‑based learning experiences. Additionally, the counselor oversees the administration of college readiness assessments, including the PSAT and AP testing programs. The College and Career Counselor works collaboratively with the Director of School Counseling, Principal, school counselors, CTE staff, families, community partners, colleges, and employers to ensure equitable access to postsecondary opportunities, career pathways, and work‑based learning experiences for all students. Essential Duties and Responsibilities College & Career Planning and Counseling Provide individual and group counseling to students regarding postsecondary planning, including college admissions, career pathways, military service, apprenticeships, and workforce opportunities. Assist students with college searches, applications, essays, interviews, and admissions processes. Support students and families with financial aid planning, including FAFSA completion, scholarship searches, and understanding financial aid awards. Coordinate college representative visits, college fairs, and postsecondary information sessions. Develop and maintain resources related to college admissions, financial aid, scholarships, and career exploration. Monitor college application and acceptance trends to inform program development and student support. Facilitate career exploration activities and career interest assessments. Develop partnerships with local businesses, higher education institutions, workforce development organizations, and community agencies. In partnership with the Co‑op Coordinator, organize and promote co‑ops, internships, job shadowing opportunities, and career‑focused programming. Support students in developing resumes, interview skills, and workplace readiness competencies. Promote awareness of career pathways and labor market trends. Assessment Coordination Serve as the school‑based coordinator for the PSAT/NMSQT program, including registration, ordering, administration, accommodations, communications, and score reporting. Coordinate Advanced Placement (AP) testing, including exam ordering, student registration, accommodations, testing logistics, proctor coordination, security procedures, and materials return. Maintain compliance with all College Board testing requirements and security protocols. Collaborate with school counselors, special education staff, and administrators to ensure appropriate testing accommodations are implemented. Analyze assessment participation and performance data to support college readiness initiatives. Family and Community Engagement Plan and facilitate workshops and presentations for students and families. Communicate regularly with students and families regarding college and career planning opportunities. Maintain partnerships with colleges, universities, workforce organizations, military recruiters, and community agencies. Program Development and Data Analysis In collaboration with the Director of School Counseling, implement a comprehensive college and career readiness program aligned with district and school goals. Collect and analyze data related to college enrollment, career readiness, scholarship attainment, assessment participation, and postsecondary outcomes. Support initiatives designed to increase equitable access to advanced coursework, college opportunities, and career pathways. Collaboration and Professional Responsibilities Collaborate with the Director of School Counseling, the school counseling team, administrators, teachers, and support staff to promote college and career readiness. Participate in school improvement initiatives and student support teams. Maintain accurate records and comply with all federal, state, district, and College Board requirements. Remain current on trends in college admissions, financial aid, workforce development, and postsecondary planning. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of School Counseling or Principal. Qualifications Required Master's degree in School Counseling Massachusetts School Counselor licensure 5+ years experience working with secondary students in a school setting Knowledge of college admissions processes, financial aid systems, and career development practices Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Preferred Experience coordinating PSAT, SAT, AP, or other College Board assessments Experience with Naviance, Scoir, SchoolBrains, or similar college and career planning platforms Experience planning college and career events and developing community partnerships Knowledge of FAFSA, scholarship programs, and workforce development resources This position is grant funded. Salary range: $85,000 - $95,000 based on experience Position: Full‑time, non‑unit, benefit‑eligible Work schedule: 7:40 AM - 3:00 PM Work year: 190 days Student school year; plus 5 days before students begin; plus 5 days after the last student day #J-18808-Ljbffr
