Description: The unit has a total of 40 beds. Patient ratios are 1:5 for Step-Down and 1:6 for MedSurg. Patient safety and care are the top priority. The goal is to receive admitted patients from the emergency department. Staff will complete admission assessments, medication reconciliations, and initiate acute care orders. The process aims to reduce overall length of stay and enhance the patient and family experience. A well-rounded background in various diagnoses is instrumental. Charge nurse experience or a willingness to learn is appreciated. Minimal bedside procedures are performed due to the environment. Float to other units is expected based on skill set. Additional opportunities include working in Telemetry and assisting with patient transport. Telemetry nurses oversee patient safety and ensure timely placement on telemetry. Transport nurses assist with moving higher acuity patients to specialized inpatient units. The staffing ensures that the emergency department nurses can provide ongoing care. Most travel nurses often request extensions due to positive experiences on the unit.
