POSITION OVERVIEW
The Teacher is responsible for the daily supervision, safety, and well-being of the classroom. This role includes planning, organizing, and implementing developmentally appropriate activities that support each child’s cognitive, social-emotional, and physical growth. The Teacher creates a structured yet flexible classroom environment that encourages exploration, creativity, and positive peer interactions.
Working collaboratively with other staff, the Teacher ensures that curriculum and daily routines align with program standards and meet the individual needs of all children. The role also involves ongoing observation and assessment of children’s development, maintaining open communication with families, and fostering a warm, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.
The Teacher is expected to model positive behavior, maintain a safe and engaging classroom, and uphold all health, safety, and licensing regulations while supporting the overall goals and philosophy of the program.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan and support age-appropriate learning experiences that promote early literacy and school readiness for each curriculum group.
- Assist in preparing and leading engaging activities across subject areas, including art, music, storytelling, science, and sensory play.
- Observe and document each child’s growth and development, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
- Communicate regularly with teaching staff, the Program Director, and families regarding children’s progress, needs, and daily experiences.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom, including proper care and use of all materials and equipment.
- Accurately document and report accidents, behavioral concerns, unusual incidents, and any suspected abuse or neglect in accordance with program policies; promptly communicate these to the Program Director
- Act as a mandated reporter in accordance with state laws, ensuring timely and appropriate reporting of suspected child abuse or neglect.
- Support the social, emotional, and developmental needs of each child, including those with individualized plans or requirements.
- Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, trainings, and family conferences as scheduled.
- Follow all health, safety, and emergency procedures consistently and confidently.
- Assist the Lead Teacher in preparing developmental progress reports and classroom documentation.
- Participate in regular professional development, including monthly meetings/workshops and bi-monthly one-on-one check-ins with the Program Director.
- Build positive, nurturing relationships with children by engaging in one-on-one interactions such as playing, reading, comforting, and conversing.
- Follow individual care routines, including feeding schedules, diapering, and clothing changes, ensuring children’s comfort and hygiene needs are met.
- Support toileting routines for older toddlers, encouraging independence while providing assistance as needed.
- Provide attentive supervision at all times to ensure children’s safety and well-being
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have a minimum of 12 credits in Early Childhood Education, if you have an advanced degree (i.e. Associates, Bachelor's Degree) additional compensation is offered
- At least one-year work experience with the appropriate age group
- DEEC certification for age-appropriate group
- Must be at least 18 of age
- At least one year work experience with appropriate age group
- Certified in First Aid and CPR for children
- Able to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Demonstrated ability to practice effective time management, organizational skills, priority management, and analytical ability
- Sensitivity to multi-cultural issues, multi-cultural training preferred
- Good role model
- Sound personal judgment, initiative, and resourcefulness
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
