Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Healthcare services is a growing field. And nursing assistants are in high demand. That's where Henry Ford Health's Nurse Assistant Apprenticeship Program comes in. Established in 2020, the program spans across the system, providing interested candidates with the opportunity to explore a career in healthcare.

The Henry Ford Health's Nurse Assistant Apprenticeship is a 12-month entry-level program that provides paid, on-the-job-training. Apprentices are hired as full-time benefit eligible team members.

The apprenticeship incorporates structured learning opportunities as well as hands-on patient care training. From gaining the state NA certification to helping patients with activities of daily life, apprentices get a well-rounded picture of what it takes to be a nursing assistant.

But the benefits don't stop there. Apprentices receive financial support and coaching from workforce development partners, in addition to the training and mentorship provided by Henry Ford Health staff.

And if another healthcare discipline seems to be a better fit? Apprentices can use their newfound healthcare knowledge and experience as part of the Henry Ford Health team to explore various career pathways and specialties in the healthcare field.

Henry Ford Health has invested in programs to build the local workforce in the community. The apprenticeship programs offered by Henry Ford Health span a variety of areas, including surgical technology, pharmacy, medical assisting, and more.

Spearheaded by Henry Ford Health's Workforce Development department, the Nurse Assistant Apprenticeship helps community members jumpstart their careers. At Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital, 16 individuals are currently participating in the nursing assistant apprenticeship program. By developing future talent through the nursing assistant program, Henry Ford Health has both filled a need for nurse assistants in the hospital and helped promote the nursing workforce.

Funding for the program comes from Henry Ford Health, as well as trusted partners, including SEMCA and utilizing the GoingPro Talent Fund whose contributions assist with providing additional support to and for apprentices. This can include transportation vouchers, food assistance, scrubs, shoes, childcare or other essential needs.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required
• Must be enrolled in or eligible for Henry Ford Health's Department of Labor (DOL) approved apprenticeship program
• Strong commitment to patient care and safety
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work effectively under the supervision of registered nurses and licensed clinicians
• Willingness to respond appropriately to emergency situations following established protocols
• Dedication to continuous learning and professional development

PREFERRED

QUALIFICATIONS

:

• Previous healthcare or patient care experience
• Basic understanding of medical terminology
• CPR certification or willingness to obtain
