Job Description

This role focuses on setting up and operating CNC mills, lathes, and related equipment to produce precision components for coin-handling products used in the gaming industry. You will assist with machine setup and operation, perform basic assembly and quality checks, and ensure machined parts meet specification through careful inspection and measurement.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC mill and lathe machines, following established procedures and work instructions.
• Assist with setup and operation of secondary machines, including CNC grinders and other machining equipment.
• Load and unload raw materials and finished parts from CNC equipment safely and efficiently.
• Assemble machined components and perform minor assembly work as required on the production floor.
• Inspect machined parts using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools to verify dimensions and quality.
• Deburr machined parts to remove sharp edges and ensure safe, high-quality finishes.
• Wash and clean machined parts prior to packing or further processing.
• Perform quality checks using micrometers, calipers, and blueprints to confirm parts meet specifications.
• Read and interpret blueprints to understand dimensions, tolerances, and machining requirements.
• Perform tool changes and ensure the machine switches between tools correctly during production.
• Upload CNC programs to machine controllers and verify correct program selection before running parts.
• Perform offsets and make minor adjustments to machine settings to maintain part quality and accuracy.
• Operate CNC equipment, including mills, lathes, Swiss-style machines, and grinding equipment, as assigned.
• Pack machined parts and materials accurately and safely for storage or shipment.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area in a climate-controlled machine shop environment.
• Follow all safety procedures, including proper lifting techniques, and handle parts weighing up to 50 lbs as needed.
• Work 2nd shift hours (approximately 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Monday through Friday) and support occasional Saturday overtime as required, typically totaling 40–45 hours per week.

Essential Skills

• CNC operating experience on milling and turning equipment.
• Ability to operate CNC mills and/or lathes in a production environment.
• Ability to measure parts accurately using micrometers and calipers.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and use them to verify part dimensions.
• Experience loading and unloading material on CNC machines.
• Basic understanding of CNC machine operation, including starting, stopping, and monitoring production runs.
• Familiarity with performing quality checks using micrometers and calipers.
• Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and squatting, including lifting up to 50 lbs for extended periods.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 1–3 years of CNC experience on mills and/or lathes.
• Experience performing tool changes and understanding how machines switch between tools during a cycle.
• Experience uploading programs to CNC controllers and verifying correct program selection.
• Experience performing offsets and making minor program or control adjustments to maintain part quality.
• Understanding of G code and G & M codes for CNC programming and operation.
• Experience with Fanuc controllers.
• Experience operating Haas, Mazak, Swiss-style CNC machines, or Studer grinding machines.
• Experience as a CNC machinist, CNC operator, or experience with CNC grinding and general machining.
• Ability to use micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools confidently.
• Experience checking parts with calipers and performing basic tool changes or setups.
• Comfort working with mostly G-code-controlled machines.

Work Environment

You will work in a clean, climate-controlled machine shop on a production floor that manufactures coin-related components for the gaming industry. The facility operates multiple CNC machines, including mills, lathes, Swiss-style machines, and approximately three Studer grinding machines, along with minor assembly and quality control stations. The role is primarily on 2nd shift, typically from 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturday overtime, averaging 40–45 hours per week. The work requires regular lifting, bending, and squatting, including handling parts and materials up to 50 lbs for extended periods. You will work around CNC controls (primarily G-code-based), Fanuc controllers, and precision measuring equipment such as micrometers and calipers in a structured, safety-conscious production environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mount Prospect, IL.

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr.
