Materials Technician II – Sample Prep – Research, Development & Innovation (RD&I) Location: Bayport, MN | Shift: 1st Shift, Onsite Job Description The Materials Technician provides critical hands‑on support to engineers by preparing and evaluating samples that enable innovation across a wide range of materials and product platforms. Key Responsibilities Material development across thermoplastics, thermosets, sealants, glass, coatings, and adhesives Corner welding and joining technologies Packaging materials and construction Fenestration product life prediction testing Product development and design Provide technical support within assigned work areas, including determining appropriate sample preparation methods and delivering accurately prepared and clearly labeled parts Collaborate with engineers to prepare, develop, test and evaluate materials, components, products, and processes Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory efficiency and quality Prepare and maintain detailed documentation of test methods, procedures, and results under guidance Manage multiple tasks while adapting to changing priorities and meeting project deadlines Communicate anomalies, technical findings, and improvement proposals to team members Build basic prototypes and fixtures by executing concepts developed by others Work independently to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision Occasional travel required (approximately 5%); primary work location is Bayport, MN Minimum Qualifications Associate degree (2‑year technical degree) or equivalent practical experience General proficiency with computers and basic software (Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) Strong interest and foundational aptitude for technical or scientific work Ability to safely operate power industrial trucks (e.g., forklift, pallet jack) Experience using material preparation tools such as band saws, chop saws, table saws, and CNC equipment Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross‑functionally and work effectively in a team environment Flexibility to work variable hours to support testing needs and project deadlines Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs Preferred Qualifications 1–2 years of experience in material characterization/testing Strong math, science, mechanical, and experimental skills Willingness to learn and operate new software and equipment Pay Range $24.95 – $36.15 Culture and Benefits 401(k) Plan, Employer Fixed Contributions & Company Matching Profit Sharing Medical, Dental and Vision Coverage Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) Health Savings Account (HSA) and Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) Life Insurance Paid Time Off & Paid Holidays Paid Maternity Leave & Paid Parental Leave Career Growth Planning & Nationwide Career Opportunities For employees covered by a collective bargaining agreement, some benefits may differ or may not be available based on the terms of the agreement.
