Shift: Monday - Friday Location: Singing River Pascagoula Hospital Job Description Summary Job Description Position Overview: The Hospice Manager utilizes epidemiological principles to meet patient care standards and JCAHO, CDC and APIC requirements in order to improve care quality and reduce or minimize the risk of development or spread of infection. The Hospice Manager directs the day-today activities of Quality and Risk Management for Hospice of Light. He/She initiates activities and provides leadership to facilitate achievement of the organization’s goals and objectives related to quality performance assessment, improvement, and patient safety. The Hospice Manager is a member of the Interdisciplinary team in order to maximize the quality of life of Hospice patients and families. He/She determines the educational needs of Hospice staff; planning for and implementing appropriate educational activities and orientation activities to achieve identified educational outcomes; and evaluates the effectiveness of staff learning. Education: Must be a graduate of an approved NLN school of nursing. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), preferred. License: Current license to practice as a LPN/Registered Nurse in Mississippi. Certifications: Must maintain and complete BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer. Experience: A minimum of three (3) years’ of clinical nursing experience is required. Supervisory experience in a home health or hospice setting preferred. Reports to: Hospice Administrator Supervises: Hospice Health Aides, Social Workers, and Chaplains. Physical Demands: Work involves using many physical motions in performing daily work activities; subject to exposure of body fluids, sputum and tissues, which may carry the hazard of infectious disease. Work involves using repetitive motions: substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and or fingers while operating standard office equipment such as computer keyboard. Must be able to be active for extended periods of time without experiencing undue fatigue. Work involves being able to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels, with or without correction. Must demonstrate the ability to communicate, speak, and enunciate to express/exchange ideas and detailed information in person and on the telephone. Work requires a minimum standard of visual acuity, with or without correction, with the ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus, i.e. shift gaze from viewing a computer monitor to forms that are closer to compare data at close vision. Mental Demands: Must demonstrate keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making skills in the management of financial responsibilities, staff, and/or patients. Must possess emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels associated in dealing with employee issues and demands of maintaining effective working relationships with peers, staff, managers, physicians, and other healthcare associates. Must demonstrate knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. Must have working knowledge of hospice programs; knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid; knowledge of Accreditation Agency standards, state and federal guidelines, regulations, requirements and standards as they apply to hospice care, life safety and healthcare. Must have a comprehensive knowledge and developed skills in pain and symptom control and psychology of loss. Special Demands: Work requires the ability to function independently, adapt to workload demands, set priorities, understand and set goals. Must possess highly developed organizational, planning and management writing skills, excellent oral communication skills, and the ability to create/maintain a collaborative work environment. Must be on-site during business hours or immediately available by electronic communication when working within the geographic service area. Must have a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record as job requires traveling throughout the SRHS service area-with the employee providing his/her own transportation. Frequent travel within a radius of 50 miles, with occasional travel beyond, is required. Must maintain liability insurance of personal vehicle used in Hospice activity. Proficient knowledge and skill in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required. Must maintain clinical skills and required credentials as needed to perform essential functions of a Hospice of Light Registered Nurse and be available to work during times of high patient census or during crisis situations.
