Occupational Therapist

The Occupational Therapist is responsible for providing comprehensive Occupational Therapy services for students with autism spectrum disorders. The Occupational Therapist functions as a member of the educational and therapeutic team. Duties and responsibilities include treatment, program planning, consultation, education to the student and family, collaboration with team members, parents, district professionals, and others involved in the education/treatment of the student, compliance with professional code of ethics and school policies, and maintaining professional documentation including session notes and quarterly reports.

The Occupational Therapist maintains IEP goals and reports and three-year re-evaluations in collaboration with the OTR/L, maintains student files including appropriate documentation and student attendance to sessions, participates in direct supervision of students and assistance with activities of daily living as needed, participates in team meetings and professional development sessions, consults and collaborates with classroom teachers, therapists, and in inclusion settings, plans and provides professional development sessions for all staff, works with Program Assistants to model strategies, discusses student progress, and assesses student needs, supervises clinical students from university programs as needed, adheres to company policies and procedures.

Knowledge and skills include the ability to effectively communicate assessment results, evaluations, and proposed treatment in a manner easily understood by team members, the district, and parents, knowledge of autism spectrum disorders, ability to treat students with autism spectrum disorders, familiarity with relevant diagnostic tools and procedures, knowledge of relevant Occupational Therapy treatment strategies and protocols, ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards, knowledge of the use and maintenance of facilities and equipment, knowledge of sensory and behavioral strategies, knowledge of child development theory, knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements, ability to use computers (word processing software, therapeutic/educational software), knowledge of relevant equipment for occupational therapy, strong written and communication skills, strong organizational skills.

Minimum job requirements include a bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy and an Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation license.

The Occupational Therapist is an exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Salary is commensurate with level of education and experience. The Occupational Therapist follows the Day School Staff calendar. Conditions of employment include a pre-employment physical, drug screening, and criminal background check, appropriate professional credentials, passing PCM training, and participation in PCM training and adherence to the Professional Crisis Management Association's guidelines.

Working conditions and physical effort include moderate physical movement, moderate exposure to physical risk, and the ability to lift and/or move up to 50+ pounds. An annual performance review will be conducted each spring by the Program Coordinator in Elementary or the OT Lead in Secondary.
