Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Assistant Teacher. In this role, the successful candidate assists Head Teacher in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate lessons, works with a team to provide a stimulating environment and activities, encourages parent involvement, sets individual goals and records anecdotal observations for each child, keeps the room clean, helps with toileting, and performs other various classroom duties. Job Responsibilities Inspects children for signs of illness or injury upon arrival Communicates directly with supervisor Readily accepts and responds to supervisory inputs accordingly Ability to implement suggestions Stays open to constructive criticism and suggestions Seeks and asks for help if needed Is willing to help others and steps outside normal job perimeters when necessary Approaches criticism with learning attitude Communicates directly, avoids gossip Offers shares ideas and materials Strives to assume a fair share of work Is friendly and respectful with others Handles transitions well Follows the daily schedule and provides outdoor playtime for children twice a day when weather permitting Is prepared for days activities Is flexible responsive to child interests Anticipates problems and redirects Provides an appropriate role model Provides plenty of child‑directed activities throughout the day Provides suitable materials for all activities Develops plans based on goals from observations/curriculum Provides developmentally appropriate activities Plans are carried out in the classroom Lessons plans support all areas of development and reflect childrens interests Turns in lesson plans and childrens observations in a timely fashion Creates an inviting learning environment. Holds parents conferences on schedule Takes an active role in encouraging parent participation Makes every effort toward positive parent relationships Maintains confidentiality Is tactful with negative information Listens and responds well to parents Greets parents and children in a positive manner as they enter the classroom Does not speak about the child in front of him/ her Ability to make appropriate written documentation and referrals when needed Helps develop language by responding to sounds infants make or words children say, sings, talks throughout the day and interacts verbally during routines such as diaper changing, hand washing, etc. Ability to set appropriate limits Has a clear and fair discipline procedure Reinforces positive behavior Avoids stereotyping and labeling Ability to work with children who are acting out Promotes self esteem in communications Encourages independence/self help Is aware of developmental levels / changes Knows and shows respect for individuals Uses a modulated, appropriate voice Supervises children closely and effectively throughout the day Always attends to childrens needs before everything else Attends and actively participates in staff meetings. Remains calm in a tense situation Flexible with assignments and schedule Gives ample notice for absences Looks for ways to improve the program Comes to work with a positive attitude Opens to new ideas Follows centers philosophy and policies Alert in health and safety matter Good grooming and appropriate attire Responsible in job duties Reliable in attendance Arrives on time Puts infants to sleep according to their individual schedules and takes care of infants upon awakening; every effort to prevent SIDS is made Feeds children according to their individual needs, family input, and CACFP guidelines Inspects fire exits and extinguishers regularly Files incident or accident reports accordingly and as needed Notifies parents and director when children are sick or get hurt Uses bleach solutions to clean toys and surfaces as required Uses the Germ Box effectively Follows the diaper changing / potty procedures for children accordingly and as needed Follows the When to Wash Hand policies as posted in the classroom Follows the hand washing procedures accordingly Inspects outdoor and indoor play areas prior to play Minimum Qualifications To qualify you must have a High School Diploma or GED 1 year relevant experience Warm, caring and outgoing personality Ability to work well with others Able to create and maintain positive relationships with children, parents and staff Preferred Qualifications: 2+ years experience in childcare Health and Safety Trainings CDA Certificate Associate or higher Degree in Early Childhood Education Bilingual Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization. NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $36,153.00 - $39,950.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
