Summer School - Speech Language Pathologist

Reports To: Building Administrator FSLA Status: Exempt Compensation: 005 (Salary determined by education and experience) Work Days: 181 FTE: 100 Position Summary Position is responsible for providing speech/language services to meet the individual needs of students with oral communication and speech/language impairments. Responsibilities include screening, assessment, goal development, and planning/implementing appropriate treatment services to maximize student learning. Responsibilities Evaluates and assesses students’ functional status to identify needs for speech/language therapy. Selects, administers, and interprets specialized hearing and speech tests. Collects background information on students’ educational, medical, social, and psychological history to determine possible causes of speech disorders. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team and participates in child study, IEP, staffing, and eligibility meetings as required. Develops individualized education plans for students and implements therapy sessions that target IEP goals. Chooses appropriate activities for developing speech, voice, fluency, and language skills. Instructs students on monitoring their own speech and provides practice strategies. Recommends adaptation of the learning environment as necessary. Consults with teachers and staff to integrate speech/language development techniques into classroom routines. Monitors progress, reevaluates IEP objectives, and adjusts services as needed. Conferences with parents/guardians and provides support and information. Instructs parents/guardians in home exercises and use of specialized equipment. Serves as a resource to staff regarding services, identification, and referral procedures. Consults with physicians and agencies to refer students to specialists. Adheres to legal and ethical standards for speech/language services. Maintains thorough records and provides related reports. Requisitions needed supplies and equipment. Performs other duties as assigned. Ensures continuity of services; may work from an alternative site during health crises or disruptive situations. Eligibility and guidelines are determined by the superintendent and supervisor. Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree in education or related field. Oklahoma Teaching Certification in Secondary Education in Speech-Language Pathology or alternative teaching certification approved by Oklahoma State Department of Education. Knowledge of speech/language needs of individuals aged 3 to 21 years. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community. Ability to work cooperatively, demonstrate self-discipline and initiative, and follow state and district guidelines. Working Conditions And Physical Requirements Able to sit or stand for extended periods. Manual dexterity to enter data into a computer. Ability to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids. Ability to hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors, and on the telephone. Ability to speak in audible tones so others understand clearly in classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone. Physical agility: bend, stoop, sit on floor, climb stairs, walk, and reach.
