Senior Structural Engineer – Water Infrastructure At HDR, we are committed to delivering safe drinking water, treating wastewater responsibly, and developing sustainable water supplies to support public health, environmental sustainability, and infrastructure resilience. Responsibilities Lead structural design of water and wastewater treatment plants, including water resource facilities, hydropower/fisheries fields, and stormwater storage. Design and oversee water conveying and containment systems such as canals, pipelines, penstocks, intakes, diversions, and barrier dams. Assist with marketing, proposals, interviews, and project production. Plan, organize, and control work through a proactive project‑management system. Implement and monitor company policy. Select, train, develop, and manage technical personnel. Serve as a technical expert in structural engineering, resolving complex project problems. Plan and develop projects or design activities. Execute project management duties on large multidisciplinary projects, while not the sole focus of the position. Coordinate staffing and workload throughout development to meet schedules. Conduct schematic, design‑development, and contract‑document sessions with other project managers and disciplines. Perform additional duties as required. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Architectural Engineering or Structural Engineering. Experience with water infrastructure and water‑bearing, holding, conveying structures. Project‑management experience. Strong communication and listening skills. Ability to handle multiple assignments. Leadership and organizational skills. Proficiency with finite‑element structural design software such as STAAD Pro, RISA, RISA 3‑D, RISA Foundations, RISA Connections, SAP2000, Tedds, Enercalcs. Knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM 360. Experience with ACI 350 structures. Experience with structural condition assessment, repair, and rehabilitation. Interest in sustainable design/LEED. Active industry engagement. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering. Minimum of 10 years of structural engineering experience in building design. Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, RAM, ETABS, SAFE, or similar analytical software. Experience in design calculations and layout. Ability to design and detail in steel, concrete, masonry, and wood. Understanding of gravity and lateral analysis. Prior experience with an architectural/engineering or consulting firm.
