This job opportunity is in the MS Office of Homeland Security, PEARL, MS, located in RANKIN COUNTY, and will serve as the Homeland Security Cybersecurity Analyst III. The Cybersecurity Analyst III serves as an advanced cybersecurity professional within the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (MDPS) Homeland Security Department and is responsible for protecting agency information systems, networks, applications, data, and technology resources from cyber threats and unauthorized activity.This position performs advanced cybersecurity analysis, threat detection, incident response, vulnerability assessment, security monitoring, risk analysis, and security operations in support of MDPS and its public safety mission. The Cybersecurity Analyst III evaluates emerging cyber threats, investigates suspected security incidents, identifies vulnerabilities, recommends mitigation strategies, and assists in strengthening the department's overall cybersecurity posture.The position works closely with MDPS information technology personnel, Homeland Security leadership, law enforcement agencies, federal partners, cybersecurity organizations, and other stakeholders to identify, assess, and respond to cyber threats affecting state government and public safety operations.The successful candidate must possess strong analytical and problem-solving abilities and be capable of working with highly sensitive information in a fast-paced environment where cybersecurity incidents may require immediate attention.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesCybersecurity Operations and MonitoringConducts advanced monitoring and analysis of networks, systems, applications, endpoints, cloud environments, and other technology resources for suspicious or malicious activity.Analyzes security alerts, logs, network traffic, endpoint activity, authentication events, and other security data to identify potential threats and unauthorized activity.Investigates indicators of compromise, anomalous behavior, malware activity, unauthorized access, data loss, and other cybersecurity events.Uses security information and event management (SIEM), endpoint detection and response (EDR), vulnerability management, intrusion detection, and other cybersecurity technologies.Develops and refines security monitoring rules, detection methods, alerts, and analytical procedures.Conducts advanced analysis of cyber threats and determines their potential impact on MDPS operations and public safety systems.Identifies weaknesses in existing security controls and recommends appropriate improvements.Cybersecurity Incident ResponseServes as an advanced cybersecurity resource during suspected and confirmed security incidents.Investigates and responds to cybersecurity incidents involving unauthorized access, malware, phishing, ransomware, credential compromise, data exposure, denial-of-service activity, and other threats.Assists with incident containment, eradication, recovery, and post-incident analysis.Coordinates with appropriate IT personnel, Homeland Security personnel, law enforcement, and external cybersecurity partners during significant incidents.Preserves and documents relevant security information and evidence in accordance with established procedures.Develops incident reports, timelines, findings, recommendations, and lessons-learned documentation.Participates in cybersecurity incident response exercises and assists with improving incident response plans and procedures.Provides technical assistance during major cyber incidents and other emergency situations affecting agency operations.Threat Intelligence and AnalysisCollects, evaluates, and analyzes cybersecurity threat intelligence from authorized sources.Monitors emerging cyber threats, vulnerabilities, exploits, malware, ransomware campaigns, phishing campaigns, and other attack techniques.Assesses threats affecting government agencies, law enforcement organizations, public safety infrastructure, and critical systems.Identifies potential threats to MDPS systems and recommends appropriate defensive measures.Produces cybersecurity intelligence reports, threat assessments, alerts, briefings, and analytical products for agency leadership and appropriate personnel.Correlates information from multiple sources to identify threat actors, attack patterns, vulnerabilities, and indicators of compromise.Shares appropriate cybersecurity intelligence with authorized federal, state, and local partners.Maintains awareness of evolving cybersecurity threats and technologies.Vulnerability and Risk ManagementConducts or coordinates vulnerability assessments of agency networks, applications, systems, endpoints, and other technology assets.Reviews vulnerability scan results and assesses vulnerabilities based on severity, exploitability, exposure, and potential operational impact.Works with system owners and IT personnel to prioritize and remediate identified vulnerabilities.Tracks remediation activities and prepares reports regarding unresolved or high-risk vulnerabilities.Assists with penetration testing, security assessments, configuration reviews, and other authorized security testing activities.Evaluates security controls and recommends improvements designed to reduce organizational risk.Assists in conducting cybersecurity risk assessments and developing mitigation strategies.Reviews proposed technology implementations and system changes for potential cybersecurity risks. Preferred Qualifications: Typically requires a bachelor's degree and 5-8 + years of IT experience with emphasis in security and compliance. Experience in analyzing threats, incidents, cybersecurity threat trends, and management experience preferred. Paid Personal Leave and Sick Leave Full-time employees receive paid time off for personal needs and for sick leave. Leave begins accruing after one month of employment and may be used as it is accrued. Employees earn approximately 18 days of personal leave annually and 12 days of sick leave annually.
