2026‑2027 Part‑Time Substitute Teacher (Pre‑K‑8th grade) Holy Family Catholic School, Shorewood, IL Position Purpose The substitute teacher is considered a ministerial employee by their role working in a Catholic School and agrees to work diligently to support and strengthen the Catholic Church and its value system. By word and example Catholic school employees support all the official religious teachings of the Catholic Church throughout their personal and professional lives. Substitute teachers agree to play a substantial role in conveying the Catholic Church's message and carrying out its mission. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Serve as a positive role model and support the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church at all times. Create a faith‑focused learning environment within the classroom and school. Facilitate student success and growth in both academic and interpersonal skills. Implement the absent teacher's written plans with fidelity, document student progress, activities, and outcomes as directed. Leave detailed notes for the absent teacher. Create a flexible, safe, and optimal learning environment. Serve as a model of the Catholic faith in words, actions, speech, dress, and demeanor. Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction and student learning. Differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles and needs, as per the teacher's directives. Conduct individual and small group instruction as needed. Ensure that students conduct themselves in accordance with the school's standards and diocesan policies. Establish and maintain standards of pupil behaviour needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere. Utilise available technology to enhance instruction. Supervise students in activities outside the classroom during the school day, including transportation, arrival, and dismissal. Seek the advice and counsel of the principal and fellow educators as appropriate when dealing with classroom issues. Use standard office equipment, Microsoft Office, and other technology to enhance lessons. Perform additional duties as assigned by school administration. Education and Experience Candidate must hold a current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL), a current Illinois Substitute License, or a valid out‑of‑state certificate from a state with which Illinois has reciprocity. Holds a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or a related discipline applicable to the teaching assignment. Practicing Catholic preferred; required to teach religion or theology courses. Previous successful teaching experience in elementary or secondary education preferred. Experience in differentiating instruction to meet the needs of all students preferred. Excellent communication and classroom management skills essential to success. Knowledge of Catholic elementary school curriculum and concepts. Work Schedule This is a part‑time, unpaid position. The substitute teacher will work as needed or on a schedule developed by the principal. Salary Range Determined at the Local Level – $140 per day Benefits Not eligible for benefits. Physical Abilities While performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently be required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, feel with hands, reach with arms, walk up or down multiple flights of stairs, and be physically able to perform duties as assigned, including the ability to lift up to 20–30 pounds if needed. #J-18808-Ljbffr Diocese of Joliet
