Member of Technical Staff, Legal Research

Shape how advanced AI systems reason through complex legal work. As a Member of Technical Staff focused on Legal Research, you will develop rigorous evaluation methods, datasets, and benchmarks for legal AI, working at the intersection of large language models, agentic systems, and enterprise legal workflows. Key Responsibilities
- Design, own, and improve evaluation frameworks for AI agents in legal domains, including benchmark suites, scoring methods, quality rubrics, and research-grade protocols.
- Conduct applied research on legal reasoning, statutory interpretation, legal analysis, and workflow automation.
- Create and curate datasets, case studies, and benchmark environments that reflect real-world legal challenges.
- Partner with AI researchers and engineers to assess and improve legal-focused models and agentic systems.
- Analyze model performance, reasoning quality, and failure modes across legal use cases.
- Document internal research findings, best practices, and evaluation methodologies.
- Stay current on legal technology, jurisprudence, regulatory developments, and AI research.
- Help establish leading standards for legal AI evaluation and benchmarking.
- Advanced law degree, such as a JD, LLM, SJD, PhD in Law, or equivalent.
- Deep expertise in one or more areas including corporate law, contracts, litigation, regulatory compliance, intellectual property, employment law, or public policy.
- Demonstrated experience in legal research, legal analysis, or policy work.
- Experience creating structured methods to assess legal arguments, legal outcomes, or research quality.
- Exceptional analytical reasoning and written communication skills.
- Experience collaborating across research, technology, or legal operations teams.
- Experience with legal technology, legal operations, or AI-enabled legal workflows.
- Background in legal benchmarking, legal research methodology, or legal knowledge management.
- Published legal scholarship or policy research, or contributions to legal standards and frameworks.
- Full-time, remote position.
- Listed annual compensation range: $400, 000 to $800, 000.
- National base salary range: $200, 000 to $250, 000 annually.
- Comprehensive benefits include up to 100% reimbursement of health insurance premiums, paid time off, a 401(k) plan with company match, and additional benefits for a high-performing remote-first workforce.
- All employees are eligible for equity compensation.
- Performance-based bonuses may be available depending on role and company policies.
