Description:
The position is for a Registered Nurse specializing in Labor and Delivery.
Candidates must have at least 3 years of relevant experience.
The unit has 16 labor and delivery beds and 13 antepartum beds.
There are 3 OR suites available for C-sections.
The unit has 8 triage beds and 32 postpartum beds on a separate floor.
The average number of births per month ranges from 320 to 400, totaling approximately 4,194 deliveries in the previous year.
The unit adheres to AWHONN guidelines for nurse-patient ratios.
BLS, ACLS, NRP, and STABLE certifications are required.
Common conditions treated include preeclampsia, previa, twins, and diabetes in pregnancy.
Registered Nurses are expected to have skills in LDR and operating room circulation.
RNs are trained to titrate pitocin and insulin drips, which may require adjustments from 1-20 ml/units, increasing up to 40 ml/units as needed.
A charge nurse is present on each shift, though they typically do not take patient assignments unless absolutely necessary.
Certified Surgical Technicians are available on every shift to assist.
An OB laborist and a neonatologist are in-house 24/7.
A designated CRNA is also available around the clock for anesthesia.
Registered Nurses will not be required to do anything beyond troubleshooting with respiratory equipment.
There are no telemetry or monitor techs on the unit, hence RNs are responsible for reading cardiac strips.
The EFM system utilized is Centricity Perinatal-GE.
Shifts are scheduled from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
Weekend requirements will be determined by unit needs.
Holidays may occasionally require scheduling for travelers.
There is no call or standby requirement for this position.
Travelers may float to other designated sites as necessary.
Scrubs will be provided to employees.
Unit-specific orientation will include one shift in labor and delivery, antepartum, and the labor and delivery operating room.
