Role Overview Ad Serving Engineering within Disney Entertainment and ESPN is responsible for building, enhancing, and maintaining the high‑performance, distributed, microservice‑based Digital Advertising Platform that qualifies, delivers, and tracks Digital Advertising campaigns across Disney’s online properties including Hulu and ESPN+. The team also collaborates on anti‑ad fatigue systems, impression‑counting pipelines, ad‑experience flows, and integrations with pacing, targeting, and ad‑selection systems. Increasingly, this role evaluates opportunities to productionise and integrate LLMs/models into high‑scale services. What you’ll do Build components of a large‑scale orchestration platform for VOD ad serving. Contribute to best engineering practices, including the use of design patterns, CI/CD, code review, and automated testing. Introduce ground‑breaking innovation and apply state‑of‑the‑art technologies such as LLM‑assisted processing or model‑driven decisioning. Contribute to all aspects of the software lifecycle: design, experimentation, implementation, and testing. Collaborate with program managers, product managers, SDET, and researchers in an open and innovative environment. Basic Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of related experience creating and coding backend services. BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience. Expertise in at least one JVM language. Experience working with cloud providers. Familiarity with databases (SQL and NoSQL). Experience investigating technical components and taking ownership of feature development. Preferred Qualifications Comprehensive experience with SpringBoot and related Spring projects. Experience with non‑relational databases (e.g., DynamoDB). Experience with Redis and/or MemCache. Experience with AWS or other cloud providers. Experience with Terraform, Docker, and Kubernetes. Ad Tech industry experience. Experience with prompt/tool pattern design, function calling, streaming, and context management. Compensation The hiring range for this position is $141,900 to $190,300 per year in Los Angeles, CA; $148,700 to $199,400 in Seattle, WA; and $155,400 to $208,400 in San Francisco, CA. Base pay is determined by internal equity and may vary by geographic region, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. A bonus and/or long‑term incentive units and a full range of benefits may be provided.
