The Co-Occurring Therapist provides comprehensive behavioral health and co-occurring substance use disorder treatment services for adults ages 18 and older. This role delivers individual, group, and care coordination services utilizing evidence-based, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented practices. The clinician conducts assessments, develops treatment plans, manages clinical risk, coordinates care across systems, and supports clients in achieving improved behavioral health, wellness, and recovery outcomes. This position works a hybrid schedule, with flexible days & hours. 

Required Qualifications:

Education

• Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field.

Licensure

• Current Colorado licensure as an:
• Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC),
• Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or
• Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) or Certified Addiction Specialist (CAS)
• Bilingual in English and Spanish or other community languages.
• Experience working with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
• Experience in integrated behavioral health settings.
• Training or experience in evidence-based treatment models such as CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Informed Care, and Measurement-Based Care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Clinical Services

• Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments, screenings, intake evaluations, and treatment planning according to clinical standards and organizational policies.
• Provide individual, family, and group psychotherapy utilizing evidence-based and recovery-oriented interventions.
• Facilitate Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and outpatient treatment groups as assigned.
• Establish therapeutic relationships that are strengths-based, person-centered, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed.
• Collaborate with clients to develop and achieve individualized treatment goals.
• Assess and manage clinical risk factors, including suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, self-harm risk, substance use concerns, and grave disability.
• Complete involuntary mental health holds and related interventions in accordance with Colorado statute, organizational policy, and professional standards when clinically indicated.
• Develop safety plans and crisis intervention strategies to support client stability and recovery.
• Provide ongoing assessment of clinical progress and modify treatment interventions based on client needs.

Care Coordination and Whole Health Integration

• Coordinate care with internal providers, community partners, healthcare systems, and referral sources to promote continuity of care.
• Address whole-person health needs through collaboration with primary care providers and other healthcare professionals.
• Facilitate referrals to specialty services including:
• Ensure appropriate releases of information are obtained to support integrated care delivery.

Substance Use Disorder Treatment

• Provide treatment for clients experiencing co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders within scope of practice.
• Complete required documentation and assessments related to substance use services, level-of-care determinations, and treatment planning.
• Apply evidence-based addiction treatment principles and interventions.
• Support the use of drug testing as a therapeutic and clinical tool when appropriate to treatment goals, client safety, and medication management.

Trauma-Informed and Recovery-Oriented Care

• Deliver services consistent with trauma-informed care principles and recovery-oriented practices.
• Understand the impact of trauma on individuals, families, and communities.
• Promote client empowerment, resilience, self-determination, and recovery.
• Reduce the potential for re-traumatization through respectful, collaborative, and culturally responsive interactions.
• Participate in ongoing training and implementation of trauma-informed and recovery-focused practices.

Documentation and Compliance

• Maintain accurate, complete, and timely clinical documentation in accordance with regulatory, licensing, accreditation, payer, and organizational requirements.
• Complete progress notes, treatment plans, assessments, and discharge documentation within established timelines.
• Ensure compliance with Medicaid and other funding source requirements.
• Maintain confidentiality and protect client information according to HIPAA and applicable regulations.
• Adhere to corporate compliance standards, professional ethics, and clinical practice guidelines.

Productivity and Performance Expectations

• Maintain productivity standards and direct service expectations as established by the organization.
• Effectively manage caseloads to ensure timely access to services and continuity of care.
• Complete required documentation and discharge within designated timeframes.
• Monitor client financial obligations and follow established procedures regarding payment collection and financial assistance resources.

Professional Development and Clinical Supervision

• Participate in individual and group supervision as required by organizational standards and regulatory requirements.
• Come prepared to supervision with clinical questions, case consultation needs, and professional development goals.
• Participate in mandatory trainings, staff meetings, and continuing education activities.
• Support implementation of organizational initiatives, evidence-based practices, and quality improvement efforts.
• Provide supervision, mentoring, or consultation to trainees, certification candidates, and license-eligible clinicians when qualified and assigned.

Organizational Collaboration

• Demonstrate professionalism, adaptability, teamwork, and accountability.
• Foster positive working relationships with clients, colleagues, leadership, referral partners, and community stakeholders.
• Communicate effectively and respond professionally to client and stakeholder needs.
• Support program operations and assist other teams or service areas as needed.
• Promote dignity, respect, equity, and inclusion in all interactions.

Salary Range - $70,000 – $77,200*

Additional Salary Information*:

• The salary range above is based on 1.0 FTE (full time equivalent) or 40 hours per week. Less than 40 hours/week will be prorated and adjusted to the appropriate FTE.*
• Jefferson Center pay is determined by various factors including education level, licensure level, years of relative experience, and internal equity amongst current staff.*
