We are a well established public works contractor based in Livermore, CA, specializing in excavation, grading, underground utilities, pipelines, parks, playgrounds, and related civil construction.

We are seeking an exceptional Director/VP of Operations to take ownership of our construction operations and transform the business into a consistently profitable organization.

This is a hands-on leadership and turnaround opportunity for a proven construction operator.

The Role

You will have primary responsibility for:

• Overall profitability and performance of active projects
• Project managers, superintendents, foremen, and field operations
• Job costing, forecasting, production, and cost control
• Labor, equipment, subcontractor, and material management
• Scheduling and project execution
• Change-order management
• Project startup, handoff, and closeout
• Hiring, developing, and holding the operations team accountable
• Establishing KPIs and operational systems that produce predictable results

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a proven public works/heavy civil operator with:

• 3+ years of construction operations experience at VP/Director level, 5+ PM/Senior PM experience.
• Significant experience with public works projects ($2 million -$15 million project sizes.
• Strong knowledge of excavation, grading, utilities, pipelines, and site work
• A demonstrated track record of improving construction profitability, team building and accountability.
• Deep understanding of job costing, WIP, forecasting, labor productivity, project margins, PL’s, forecasting and change order management.
• Experience leading multiple project managers and field personnel
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
• The credibility to earn the respect of experienced field teams
• An owner's mindset and a results-oriented approach

What We Expect

Within the first 30 days, you will assess our operations, identify the causes of project losses, stabilize problem projects, establish accountability, and implement a plan to materially improve margins and overall company profitability.

Compensation: Highly competitive base salary plus performance-based incentive tied to results.
